  1. for the first time in 12 years I didn't finish the race. It was a 1/2 IM
    distance, which I've done before.
I have numerous reasons for blowing it: wasn't ready, wasn't near rested
beforehand, poor nutrition intake, dehydrated, 90 minute delayed start
(pea-soup fog) put us well into the hottest part of the day, puking,
    dizzy, weak, etc

I'm feeling like a major weenie/failure... never quit before... any
suggestions on how to deal with the low feelings appreciated
    Eric

  2. Take it as a learning experience - You quit, so what, it can happen to
all of us - Focus on WHY you quit, the reasons you felt lousy, and take
steps to change them and set yourself up for success NEXT time - What
doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

  3. If all things we encountered in life were victories we wouldn't enjoy
them as much. It takes a few lost battles to remind us how glorious
"Victory" is. Don't give up! -Mike

And remember that 99% of the population would probably have drowned on
    the swim.

Keep that lousy feeling vivid in your memory and remember it the next
    time you feel like quitting.

Oh, Mike, you got there first. You had to know that's what I was going
to say. Yes, treasure the rotten moments. They add a touch of realism
    to our chosen avocation.

The elements that unravel your performance are just as important to
remember as those that improve it. Think of it as "feedback".

Be safe. I have been one of the gray-faced people in the medical tent
before. It can seem heroic to finish on your axles, but there is a
    bigger picture.
