I live in Colorado, and have been commuting by bicycle, year-round for 18 years. By dressing properly, I can ride in sub-zero weather. Visit ski shops for appropriate gloves. Even hunters have some unique warm clothing - neoprene oversocks, shoes, etc. Mountain bikes are the only way to go, when there is the risk of snow. I'll ride in 1-2 inches, but after that it can get a little treacherous.
I love riding by a line of traffic-stalled vehicles with my coat prominently displaying my "Oil-Free and Happy" patch. Really makes a statement!

Um , some bicycle lubricants , such as Pedros and Finish Line use non-petroleum based , biodegradable , mainly plant based ingredients (a renewable source ) in their products and they work very , very well in just about all weather conditions . Plus ,I found that any stains usually dissapear on clothing during the wash cycle in the laundry (even during hand washings ) .

Don't believe my post. It's true. I occassionally drive, and I certainly don't wear the patch during those times. The intention of wearing and marketing this patch is to instill thought and curiosity about the ramifications of our decisions.

I'm all for reduction of petroleum dependence and I also don't drive much. But I would never wear something saying "oil free" when not only is that an ambiguous statement ("petroleum free" would seem to suit your cause better) but it would also make me a hypocrite. I own a car, drive when I need to, and use petroleum products in my daily life. Hypocritical statements like this just give fuel (no pun intended) to the counter arguments.
