DH left this morning for his annual 2 day bonding trip with the guys so I have the kitchen all to myself 🙂
On today's agenda - I have a nice hamper full of meaty by smallish tomatoes perfect for sauce. I have a lg batch of roasted tomato sauce has just been started on the bbq. When it is finished I'll can it up. I think I will toss a smallish roast on the bbq too just to take advantage of the heat. I don't have a lot of room though so I might not be able to. While the roasted tomato sauce is busy smelling up the neighbourhood, I'm canning green pole & yellow wax beans. I'm getting just about beaned out but the garden keeps producing them.
For dinner tonight - garden salad, lobster, baked potato; DH hates lobster so I only get it when he is away or we eat out at specific seafood restaurants.
On tomorrow's agenda - I have to make a trip into town for more canning jars. I wish people would just return the jars even! I'll put on another lg batch of roasted tomato sauce. I'll can that batch up too later in the evening. While that is cooking I plan to blanch & freeze corn niblets as well as spanish onions and perhaps some green peppers. Then I'm turning a zucchini into 5 or 6 zucchini loaves. The other zucchini will be sliced and dried.

I went to the map but didn't stay long enough to put a doohinky on there. How anyone could love lobster is beyond me. Served with hot drawn butter it is to die for! He eats just about any seafood except lobster. He's never said why but that does leave more for me 🙂

I've posted it here a couple of times but here you go. It really isn't a recipe just the method. Quarter tomatoes; don't worry about the seeds or skins. Chop green peppers, spanish onions, garlic, and fresh herbs if using. I like using fresh basil and a little parsley. Place a layer of tomatoes on the bottom of a lg roasting pan. Sprinkle on a few of the other veggies and herbs. Continue on in layers until the pan is heaping full. Don't worry they won't boil over before they reduce. Drizzle a good amount of olive oil over the tomatoes. Cover and set on bbq on low and cook until you have to beat the neighbours off 😉 I can mine using bwb for 35 min. I have also had good luck freezing this sauce.

My kids know that rule too well. That goes not only for jars but ziploc containers. It's the friends we still have to train 😉

I didn't like lobster before I found out about lobster tails - all meat, no fuss. Trying to eat one of those icky whole lobsters is more work than fun.

Lobster tails - or more correctly - the tails of spiny lobsters (sometimes referred to as 'saltwater crayfish'😉 are an entirely different beast. Real lobster are not so much eaten as experienced. It is a sad commentary of our times that eating simply involves stuffing one's face. Anything on the plate that requires some effort gets dissed. This is a pity.

I found a empty jar sitting at someone's home very recently. It had been sitting there for several weeks on the counter and not washed. I thought that I'd take it home, but it was too dirty from old food, I just dumped it; but I considered that the person had good intentions; that was a pleasant surprise, too, (but a small one - tee hee.) I think you probably are right. But when people know each other a little better, then I think they probably do see each other frequently enough that when visiting, they will return it -- just like potluck dishes. Sometimes one wants to take their worstest dishes. Dee Dee

I make a fair number of goodies for a couple of our boys that don't do a whole lot of cooking and really appreciate home cooking. The rule is the ziploc containers come back if you want them refilled. Still the same amount sent is always more the the amount returned 🙁 The same thing happens with my canning jars. My kids are good about returning those but friends aren't. One of my friends always gets a couple jars of salsa and dilly beans. I have yet to see a jar return from her! I figure I've lost a couple of cases of jars just to her alone. She doesn't can either. I just think she and others don't realize the cost of canning jars so they either use them for storage or toss them.
How the heck can toilet seats go missing? It isn't like you can use them for picture frames or anything else useful other than their intended purpose. One of our friends complains about shopping carts going missing from his grocery store. Another friend found a really cute pic showing a shopping cart converted into a bbq. Now we know where those are going 😉

The effort of eating lobster is half the fun not to mention the taste. I had a whole lobster so was quite content 🙂 I love crab legs for the same reason. I could sit there all night cracking away just to get to that sweet treat!

Wayne, that is so true. I expect their return from my kids because they know but I've given up on friends. More than one of our friends have come in and been immediately amazed at my canning rack. The number one question after all the accolades is "Would you mind if I took a jar of this?" The smile on their face when I say "go ahead & enjoy" is worth more than the cost of the jar. DH's poker friends are aweful for this but then so are a lot of my friends! Then there's the kids who view the canning rack and freezers as their personal grocery store 😉
