  1. I think horse meat tastes great, we should eat more horse meat !

Horses are dumb animals, nobody needs them, but their meat is better than meat from cows, sheep, goats
    because it´s BSE-free !

So slaughter the horses and ride the cows in the future !

  2. Obviously trolling. A relevant point was brought home to me as I applied Coppertox to my horse's
hooves this weekend. The label said

"Do not use on animals intended for food".

I recall a similar statement printed on the packaging for the wormer I gave her two weeks ago.

Carl would do well to not eat my horse, or any horse that has received the most basic equine care.

"Carl" is a regular moron, but they do eat horses in Europe. In Legnano (small city outside Milan
where I go about once a year for reasons that should best be left somewhat occult), there's a shop
that sells horse meat. They sell carpaccio di cavallo at the grocery store. I was highly offended,
but my Italian friends couldn't understand why.

I'm a vegetarian, anyway, but I'd sooner eat a cat than a horse.

Only if the cats been soaked in salt water for a day, then hung in the fridge for a week, then
braised for a couple of hours in a wonderful sauce of red wine and spices and fresh garden
    vegetables.

    Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm :-)

Maybe that's why the next door neighbours cat won't come near me??

Me too can't understand. Horse meat is just another meat, with all its own recipes and ways to use.
For esemple, sometimes we eat horse steaks, or horse stew, or we eat uncooked ground horse fillet
with just EVO oil, salt, pepper and a pinch of cinnamon. It rocks. In the south of Italy, expecially
south-east, it is common to see horse stew also in those fast-food vans: they just put two slices on
the bread, add some lettuce and maybe mayo and close with the other bread. That makes wonderful
sandwiches! And a friend of mine uses to eat raw uncooked horse steaks, and when somebody says
"You're a bit beasty" he says "You eat it raw ground and I eat it raw whole, what's the difference?"

Horse meat isn't bad. It's stringier than beef, but if you cook it "wet," like you would tougher
cuts of beef, it's pretty good. Horse meat makes great taco and burrito meat.

Carl may be trolling, but I'm not. We're horse owners and beef cattle ranchers, and we've eaten
horse meat. And we live in America. Get over it, girls. Meat is meat.

Hi Jan, I remember a few years ago a local restaurant added horse meat to its menu. Unfortunately,
it didn't change the "written" menu to read horse rather than beef. There was quite an uproar and
the restaurant owner was fined and had some rigid inspections for a while. However, the clientele
found the food tasted quite acceptable and as with most mom and pop establishments had a "loyalty"
customer base. From the comments in the local rag though, on hearing they had been eating horse meat
    their loyalties changed.

Agreed. I live in U.K. and we used to be able to buy horsemeat here in the 70's in the West Country,
but now they only serve it in fancy London restaurants.

On a day trip across the channel to France you can find any number of horsemeat butchers. The meat
is good, in France it's more tender and often better than beef. And also not so fatty, so better for
    steak tartare.
