  1. i know this sounds weird but what would be the best way to cook say boneless,
skinless chicken thighs to the point of faling apart?

I need very very tender, fall apart meat. I have a very sick dog that needs to
eat very bland, mostly fiber free food for a while so it's going to be a lot
of tender chicken, rice and some way overcooked carrots.

any suggestions on the chicken thighs?

For my dog, I poached them. I would also make cans of chicken
noodle for her, perhaps you could poach the thighs in chicken broth
to make a chicken soup type thing for your dog. It was easier for my
dog to eat that way. Just a thought. Good luck.

I would simmer or steam them. you could use the water the chicken is
cooked in to cook the rice in, too.

I would stew them in just water -- put them in cold water, bring the
water barely to a boil, reduce to a bare simmer, cook for an hour or
    so.

you could braise them in water for an hour or two

Braising in some chicken broth, or even just some water.
Use a small pan or skillet, put the chicken in and fill it with liquid a
little over half-way covering the chicken. Cook on low heat for about 45
    minutes.

I have to cook this way for my dad as he has bad teeth. ;-)

I have a cat with a sore mouth right now, (she's scheduled for a dental
on Friday) and she's not wanting to eat even canned cat food so I'm
tempting her with people food, both beef and chicken or whatever meat
    I'm eating.

I just chew it up for her myself before offering it and it's working
well. I know it sounds a bit gross, but it works and it's easier than
    trying to mince it. <G>

Dice the chicken and cook it in with the rice or carrots.

Do you have a pressure cooker? Pressure cook a whole chicken or a small
    turkey.

You better find out fast if your dog can eat chicken without a gastric reaction.
Most dogs at least get bad gas from eating chicken or turkey, and I found out the
hard way that if gives my dogs the [censored].

How big is this dog? I'd just poach, simmer the chicken pieces in
water until they were "done" and use two forks or my fingers to shread
it. Also, whole chicken costs less than parts - so why spend money on
boneless, skinless chicken pieces when you can easily take chicken
meat off the bone after it's cooked?

  12. Thanks guys. The vet gave me canned food and recommended moving to chicken or
turkey for a couple days afer the food is done and then maybe migrate her
slowly back to her crunchy food depending on how she's doing.

She's a shar pei, she usually weighs about 34 pounds, she's always been very
slender. She's down to 32 pounds. It doesn't seem like much but she needs
    every pound she can get.

I think I'm going to make a big batch of congee for her (and me) and add
shredded poached chicken and overcooked carrots to it. My ex got the pressure
cooker and I've not yet replaced it.

The crappy thing is that my central air broke down and it's 92 degrees out.
The landlord can't get anyone out to fix it until tomorrow. I really don't
    feel like boiling anything.

    Best idea I've seen yet!
Pressure cooking is the fastest and easiest way to cook just about any
meat to death. ;-) I use it for tough cuts of beef.

  15. I agree poaching/boiling is the way to go, and I would
follow this by slicing across the grain so as to simplify
    swallowing it.

It's getting her to eat... That's all that matters. ;-)
I had some leftover antibiotics from that matter with my sheltie and I'm
giving her 1/4 of one per day, so that is helping. She does not seem to
be as sore now so accepted some salmon flavored Fancy Feast a little bit

I'm of the same opinion, if that's what it would take to make my dog healthy,
I would do it. Unfortunately, unlike a cat, she has a giant mouth and I don't
think I could keep up with her.

Heather, if you have a slow cooker or electric fry pan, you could do
it on a table outside. I had to do that when we were on vacation a
couple of summers ago and we were camping in our camper van. We stayed
inside where it was cool and left the slow cooker on the picnic table.
Hope your doggie is better soon.....Sharon

You could do the meal ahead of time........

What kind of dog is she?

I've actually known a number of people that pre-chewed food for bottle
    raised puppies during weaning.
