I've lost the computer out of the bracket on the handlebars. There's a couple of places it might turn up, but I'm not going to look too hard as this is my chance to replace it with one that suits me better.
The old one was a Cateye Mity 3. The one thing that was missing was the ability to display the time while cycling - it showed the time when it went into resting state, but that's not much help. So I want a computer that can display the time. I don't want wireless or cadence, just a basic computer that shows distance, current speed, average speed, elapsed time and total distance. One thing I did like about the Cateye was its dual display, showing 2 things at once. I like to be able to see my current speed and distance cycled, and miss this from the computer on my other bike that only shows one thing at a time. I have a Halfords 9-function wireless. It shows current speed, and a choice of clock, average speed, current journey time, cumulative journey time, max speed, journey distance, cumulative distance. IIRC, it was about 12 quid. I like it.

Mity 3 does have a clock - it's the mode I like to leave mine on mostly. All you had to do was to hold the mode button down in the "Tm" mode for two seconds to get this sub mode.

Another Mity 3 if you can find one (has been discontinued), or Mity 8 replacement which is similar except has some/all of the sub modes as main modes. Read the manual next time ;-)

My Cateye Tomo XC shows time as do my Vetta C15s. I doubt either of these models are available now. I got the former a few months ago for £10.50 on eBay.

Yup both of mine do! Get up the elapsed time and hold mode for 3 seconds and bingo, the clock appears.

Ah manuals. I thought they were a myth 🙂. Seiously though if I had read the manual to my MITY 3 I wouldnt have reset the whole damn thing when I tried to change it to British Summer Time.

Not being the greatest at balancing, and often riding in Manchester traffic, this isn't a manoeuvre I'm keen to do a lot. I'm hoping to find one where the time is one of the standard displays reached by pushing a button without holding it.

2 years ago I bought a 9-function Raleigh computer from Argos, can't remember the exact price but it was less than a tenner. Has all the usuals, plus time-of-day and pacer arrows (I find them a bit annoying actually). Not wireless. Mode button on the back is OK with thick gloves on. Only recently had to change the battery. Never been affected by rain. But one time, after a 4-mile ride to work it recorded a max speed of 80mph, which I don't quite remember doing! All I'd like extra is a backlight for night riding.

Some of them will do that if you happen to stop with the magnet exactly on the sensor, and then rock back and forth a little. I've tried that trick after a particularly slow day's riding, in a vain attempt to get my average up ... didn't work, cheats never prosper ... ;-)
