  1. hey guys,
I'm completely new to posting on these forums although i have been looking through them for info over the past few months. I'm looking to buy a new bike because the bike that i'm riding now is a friends bmx bike. I've been riding over the past year and have been getting more serious the past 6 months. I've decided i want to switch over to road bike because i enjoy taking long commutes. I'm between race and triathalon road bikes and i'm not sure which one i should go for because i'm confused on the difference. I have a good chunk of money saved up for this bike ($3,000) and i was wondering if anyone has any suggestions, any feedback would be great thanks guys

  2. oh to clarify on the race vs traithlon bike differences i mean other than one being used in triathlon arent they both built to be lightweight and fast?

  3. Give us an idea of where you are located and what bikes you have it down to.

If Triathlons are your thing, then which type, Short Course, Olympic or Ironman? The best bikes are different.

  4. Well right now there are three bikes that i'm narrowing in on. The first one is the Leopard CL1 i have a friend that has riden one and he says he likes it alot. The trek TCT carbon 5000 is another one. I rode that one at a local bike shop an the ride was pretty nice. And Lastly the Kuota kalibur. I'm not really looking to be in ironman or anything like that anywhere in the near future, just want a nice, fast, lightweight bike. I'm riding for recreational purposes right now, but as a build up i plan on entering in on some long distance races.

  5. OK, don't worry about a tri specific bike.

Stay with road bikes, the Trek or similar, look at Felt Carbon Road bikes also. Most important, make sure its not too big, correct bike fit and rider comfort will make even the cheaper bikes good value.

  6. oh one more thing, when catagorizing bikes in leopard cycles they subcatagorize into build kits, i'm completely unfamiliar with this. Anywhere you can point me with more information would be great. They subdivide into Shimano 105, Ultegra, and Dura-Ace. I figure if i dont know the difference i shouldnt pay the difference but i could be wrong

  7. 105 = Ok or rides once a month
Ultegra = good or rides once a week
DA = Very Good! or rides all day every day and has the $$ to keep it up!

Best value, strength to weight to cost is Ultegra.
