  1. Someone told me that the TdF takes 5 years of your life which I find hard to
comprehend. I can see how participating in many sports professionally can
wear out your joints etc, but physically take years off your life?

Also, was told that Tour cyclists have to wake themselves up in the night to
do some exercise as their heart beats drop to such a low level. Erm .. true
or false? Wouldn't they have to do this all year when training too?

    Thanks

Bad news for Joop Zoetemelk if this is true. His 16 tours then cost him 80
years of his life. Being 56 now, had he opted for another career he would
live to be at least 136 years old :-)

  3. Presumably Richard Virenque's days are numbered then....?

It is very easy to comprehend. This was just a bit of an arbitrary statement
    that means *nothing*.

LOL, that is even more retarded than the first one. How could you even give
that statement enough credence to ask the question?

    Uh, yeah sure.

I agree, but most of the locals in my pub need a bit of wow factor to
realise how hard the tour really is. And can they please turn the replay of
golf off and show the tour highlights, please.

So, is it true the team cars will take a turd in a towel if needed?

Emile Brichard died shortly after the start of this year's TdF. He rode the
    1926 Tour.
    He was only 104!

It was true that in the 1960's and 1970's a disproportionanelly percentage
of professional cyclists died of heart attacks at early age. Not because of
the Tour, but because they took too much amphitamines.

It was only true at the end of the 1980's and the beginning of the 1990's
when riders hadn't yet understood how to mitigate the side effects of Epo
(`thicker blood'😉. When dr. Michele Ferrari and his collegues solved this
    problem it wasn't necessary anymore.

He didn't ride the Tour of '26 but only part of the first stage. If he
hadn't been so wise, he probably would have died five years ago :-)
