  1. Well, it had to happen sooner or later. I finally biffed on my
commuter cruiser. It happened on my lunch break, right in front of
the Cop Shop. Luckily, nobody was outside and witnessed this goof.

It had been raining and I took care to wipe the saddle off before
leaving the lot and turned the light on for "safety", as well as to
abide by the law. After crossing the street and heading up the
driveway to cut through the state building lot, the rain had
apparently slickened a recently painted curb that I normally ride
right up. Well, it had other ideas and my rear wheel slid out rather
rapidly and the next thing I knew, I was rolling on the ground.

The bike got through it unscathed and I lucked out with a minor
charley horse from the handlebar striking my left thigh and a small
strawberry on my right knee. It threw the chain and kinked it in two
places, but a few greasy fingers later, I was off and rolling to get a
    giant burrito.

A special note to the helmet nazis out there. I choose to not wear a
helmet while commuting because I find it highly unneccessary for my
purposes. Most of my commute is on a bike path away from the roadways
and riding home at 0-dark-30, I ride the road all of the way home and
rarely see any traffic at all. I've been on a solid commute streak
since mid-May this year and have only had one self-induced mishap
where I didn't come close to landing on my noggin. Then again, I
don't hit the dirt without a lid and tend to land on my noggin first
    in that realm.

OK, so you fell. It happens. I think what we really want to see is a
    picture of that "giant" burrito.

Painted pavement...the scourge of anyone who rides on pavement. I have a
buddy at work who rides his motorcycle(s) a lot, and he says its pretty
bad for them as well. We get *a little* wet pavement here in Oregon.

I used to just wear the lid all the time - I still wear it all the time on
pavement since there are always cars around. I've stopped wearing it on
the easier fireroads, since I've ridden there at least a hundred times and
never come close to crashing. Feels great to have the wind blowing through
the hair - its like being a kid again!

    Ha Ha!~

As a longtime commuter in an area that's often wet, I've suffered my
    share of water related slides.

One of my emergency room visits was because of a combination of "Onza
porcupines" and rain, and that was on slightly wet pavement.

    Try wet streetcar tracks sometimes.

One car westbound on Ute saw the whole deal, but didn't make the
perfunctory "I saw something, but don't know anything else" 911 cell
phone call. If my coworkers had been looking out the window, they
would have had a bird's eye view. They laughed anyways when I related
    the story after returning.

I got "caught" by one of those things a few months back and got suckered
with a huge fine (could've bought a top of the line XC fork or a good
deal on a frame at that price), then subjected to a mind-numbing 8+
hours of traffic school, wasting a beautiful sunny California Saturday
    in September.

I'd sure like to see my local P.D. send me a ticket in the mail for
entering the intersection too late on my bike though! c'mon coppers,
    try me....
