Only 6 years to go the the Olympics in London.....but let's hope we have a renewed effort in the UK to encourage all our people to live healthier lifestyles and take regular exercise and eat better from 2006
onwards....i.e NOW!!
Let's encourage our teenagers to really engage in the Commonwealth Games in 36 days time, and let it inspire them to have a good aim in life - health and fitness!

No cyclists in the "team" as listed. Curiously the teams for the relay races consist of one person each....

uk.* and rec.* are unrelated hierarchies. UK Usenet traditionally makes no reference to the existence of groups in other hierarchies; if it's on topic in a uk.* group, then it doesn't matter whether it's also on topic for another group outside of uk.*

And so is transport cycling, although the group happens to be within the uk.rec namespace. In theory we could create uk.transport.cycling and crosspost lots but, as numerous posters have said in the past, there's not a lot of point.

Most of the competitors at the Commonwealth Games are amateurs, doing their sport for recreation. Plenty of people on this group compete at one level or another for recreation. Cycle sport in Britain is overwhelmingly a recreational activity - the number of pros is tiny.
And /taking/ /part/ in amateur competition (which is 99% of all cycle competition in Britain) is a recreational activity.
There seems something wrong with describing a time trialler on the point of death, with lungs bursting and eyes popping out, as a 'recreational' rider :-)
