colored tires

    I was browsing the 1917 Hawthorne catalogue when I noticed that
    Riverside (Montgomery Ward) bicycle tires were available for $5.65 per
    pair with red, black, or white tread:

    So much for colored tread being a modern fashion innovation.

    The weird Hawthorne bike accessories start around page 30:

    The 1919 Harley Davidson bicycle accessories are even better:

    Prices are about the same for fancy tires now:

    "$5.65 in 1917 had about the same buying power as $95.76 in 2006."
    Annual inflation over this period was about 3.23%.

    Fancy tires these days are ~$45, +tax gets you to about $95.

    Does anyone but Coker still make button-tread tires for 26"/559mm rims,
    especially in white? (I'm not sure the Cokers will fit but they cost too
    much for my purposes each anyway).

    Searching for white cruiser-style 26" tires, I have seen the cream Felt
    Quick Bricks and the white Kendas at Bike Nashbar. The Schwalbe Fat
    Franks are nice-looking, except for the Schwalbe logo and reflective
    strip that would need to be removed (to have them appear "vintage".....

    Right through the '70's, Singer made many mechanical devices. The
    "windshield wiper" on Navy destroyers built in the '70's being among
    them. I don't remember ever having to replace or repair one of them.

    ALL-white, not whitewalls, and preferrably with button tread.
    Every place online that deals in lowriders has whitewalls.
