1. Whenever i push myself very hard on coldish mornings my nose runs like hell, mucus and spit fills up my mouth and nose. Is this normal. What can i do to stop it?

Could be any of a number of reasons. For example dairy products in your diet.

How cold is cold? Where do you live?

4. Tuck several tissues up the sleeves of your jersey (top, not island). 🙂

5. I live Redfern. Not so cold usually-just ride to work in arncliffe. I don't drink milk/dairy stuff much at all.

6. gclark8 said to tuck tissues up your sleeves. Wrong !😕 use a farmers hanky. Just pinch one nostril closed, with a finger, and blow hard out of the other to clear it. Repeat for other nostril.
You might try to wear a base layer such as a thermal under your jersey (unless you is already using one)

It's been about 6deg in the mornings in Sydney, which wouldn't help

Excuse me, but I believe that is called a "Farmer's Blow".

Make sure that no one is behind you and that your shoulder isn't in the way

One time I had the flu, was in a bunch ride, blew to the gutter side but a South African chap was holding my wheel & he copped some...well I thought I aimed well but the wind caught it

Sorry to be pedantic, but it's highly unlikely you had the flu. When you have the flu, you're generally struggling to just walk around and do normal things. you wouldn't be able ride in a bunch.

12. You can have symptoms of varying degree depending largely on vitamin D status and the individual's optimum level. knowledgeofhealth.comreport.asp

On a similar note, one cold morning along Beach Road I accidentally splattered a guy's shoulder with some gooey mucus from me runny nose. :p

Apparently the guy had been drafting me for quite a while without me realizing it. Only managed to find out that there was someone behind me when I heard the squeal from his rim and brakes.

Turned back and there he was stopping at the side of the road wiping my snort off of him..

Whoever you are..sorry dude!!😄

14. Actually I think it has something to do with the blond I saw you with sharing a red up in Newtown. Low zinc levels or something like that.

And therein lies a lesson for all you riders who spot a rider up ahead, and pedal at cadence of 110 rpm to get onto his wheel and then just hold his wheel without so much as a "hey do you mind if I hold your wheel and let you do all the work"
serves him right for being sneaky

16. Possible. But I actually heard somewhere that getting regular action improves your immune system. I wonder if i can get a prescription? BTW I missed the sunday ride- the handicap on saturday was enough for one weekend.

So you got away from work in time to race. I went on Sunday, it was a small ride as many were away at a race somewhere. I won't be there next Sunday as I'll be in Adelaide.

BTW, shouldn't your name be 56/11ring?

Edit: Eric has figured out that Mikesbytes is me, but claims not to have a posting name, so since he's outed me, I need to out him too !!!!

Actually I think you need to get a variety of action to build up immunity. Remember in Australia, we Bonk before the ride, not during the ride.

18. Usually after the ride is more common, as (unfortunately) I do not know many people who will get up at 6 in the morning for sex. Good luck for you if it is different for you. If i ever see you struggling i will know where the energy went.

But by 11.00 it is most of my friends usual sunday waking hour. Actually, about a month ago i saw a good friend stumbling down king street with a bottle of wine just as i was heading off for the sunday ride. I think she was more suprised than i was.

Even better than getting away from work- i was at work. My manager drove me to the race!-then made me ride around on one of our bikes so he could take pics. If only i wan then i would have been getting double time, which is only fair for the weekend anyway.

56-11? well to be truthful at the moment it is either 55-11 or 56-12. The old 11-21 8 speed cassete is on the way out, and only 12 can be got in 8 speed. My new bike has "only" got the 55-43, not the insane 56-46 on the Klein. I really do not know what Shimano was thinking when they made a 46 little ring.

Hopefully it is sunny tomorrow so i can get to ride on my day off.

Hey don't I struggle anyway!

20. On the nose thing; dont worry about the finger closing the nostril, just lift your head and blow, that way, if one nostril is a bit solid the pressure doesn't backfire into your ears. The other thing to watch out for, especially in triathlon after everyone comes out of the water and is extra snotty, is the slippery road surface on the first corner - thats where they all crack the first blow - slick
