Coffee Glasses

Sonoma and Sur la Table.
Ikea and Crate and Barrel have mug sets. Bodum Corona Glass Mug got my
590 hits on google.

Where you live? I don't know - Target and Walmart? Zellers? Marks
and Spencer? Der Tablemeister?

You can use a regular pint glass. Lots of coffee places use these for
lattes. Anything that's as thick as a pyrex measuring cup or pie plate
should
handle the heat just fine. They make the stuff at what, 800 farenheit?
1200? So it won't melt. Thermal
shock is the concern, but thick glass can handle the stresses.

I've seen someone do a trick with putting a spoon in a thin wine glass
before pouring in hot
coffee, claiming the spoon would suck up the heat and keep the glass
safe. I wouldn't bother, plus then you've
got a spoon in a fragile glass.

My mother has always used that trick with her crystal. She claims that
the spoon must be silver though. I don't know if the spoon is required,
but she's never broken crystal with heat.

I had a 'good' crystal old fashion glass break while sitting in the china
cabinet undisturbed. The glasses were rarely used, and I found the glass
broken on it annual 6 month wash. With a neat ring of glass making the
glass about 1 inch shorter in height. Shows that glass is under strain no
matter where it is.

Interesting, though. Wonder if it got sunshine on it, or someone
dropped something heavy nearby. Or (most likely) someone broke it
without noticing, or without telling you.

Probably because, being weak, they make silverware so thick that it is
heavy enough to soak up a lot of heat. Or maybe silver is like copper;
a heat conductor. It conducts electricity well, and the two usually go
together.
