Diane is looking for. I haven't done it but I'm sure there must be someone

Scotland or England ? You could even do a Welsh coast to coast
(north/south).
A semi-organised Scottish c-to-c is the TGO Challenge, a very sociable and,
indeed, challenging walk.--

Are you talking about the official Wainwright's Coast-to-Coast walk between
St Bees and Robin Hood's Bay? My advice would be to try a google search as
there are a number of pages there whioch will give you good information. I
havent done it all but walked parts. My experience is that the Lake
District side is great but after that there are long stretches of rather
boring countryside and nothign dramatic.Rob

Yes, starting at St. Bee's and onto Robin Hood's Bay... I've read
Wainwrights book, consulted some websites and of course everyone has their
take on the walk. That's a good thing of course...learn from the voice of
experience. We were in Grasmere in Aug 2005 and thought...what a great trip
it would be...we're coming back! From what I've read and Wainwright as well
said that West to East is the way to go...but nobody ever accused us of
going with the flow. Last time we were in England we had 23 days of
sunshine...actually it only rained on us in Scotland and Wales...England
remained absolutely glorious the entire time, yeah well coming from
Vancouver I understand grey drizzle cold rain very well...and know that our
stroke of luck with the weather is probably not going to be repeated...so
really want to plan the trip when our chances are the best for being dry.
Are we there yet? Can I go now? No, back to my desk...shuffle some
papers....plan my next escapeCheers!

The Welsh coast to coast, is that not what Offa's Dyke is? -
I did it in 2004 with my wife - took fourteen days West to east and we had a
great time!We did it the last week in April/first in May - the feeling being that later
in the summer (July August)could be
a little warm.It is a great walk and you wont be disappointed. The Lakes are obviously the
most difficult part but
dont let that put you off if you do the walk in the traditional way West to
East - the rest of the walk doesn't come
as an anti-climax. It passes though some beatuiful and varied countryside
with some great places to stay - Kirkby Stephen and
Richmond being good examples.One way in which the CtoC beats the Pennine Way is that you are likely to
meet more people
doing it and the camaradery with them helps make it. We hardly spent an
evening alone and met
up with the same people several times on the walk and spent many a happy
beery evening
in the pubs swapping stories with other Coast to Coasters. We got to know a
Canadian vey well
this way and walked with them for a few days.I would advise you book accommodation in advance - Keld is a particular
problem because accommodation
is scarce. This is where the CtoC and Pennine Way cross.If you want a more challenging walk where you are less likely to meet
people - do the Pennine Way.Incidentally, I have a website, The Pennine Way site, where you can buy
books and maps on both the
Coast to Coast walk and The Pennine Way - plug plug! Its at

Diane in VancouverOne reason for doing it early in the season is to see the full glory
of the wildflower meadows in Swaledale. I think I did it in May --
can't really remember 'cos it was 15 years ago -- and the meadows were
wonderful then. (You could find out from the National Park people when
the meadows are at their best.)Cheers,
