I know both stretches of coastline, but if I had to choose, I'd be off down
to Cornwall every time, especially around Kynance Cove and almost anywhere
in the West Penwith portion.

The coastal footpath through Dorset and Devon is also very impressive...
Lulworth Cove, Durdle Dor and Golden Cap... great coastal scenic splendour.

The Northumbria coast has it own charms (if not always the weather), but it
doesn't have the same variety of landscapes found along some other stretches
of coastline. Craster and Dunstanburgh is pleasant, as is Bamburgh... but a
lot of it is fairly flat. Not so sure about public transport connections in
this corner of the country either... it is certainly not as touristy at the
South West (so good if you want to get away from it all).

Thanks David. Yes, Cornwall would be attractive but I have to consider my
companion's fare from Leeds - also she's a Northern lass and prefers bad
weather :-~

What about starting off at Saltburn in Cleveland and heading south towards
Whitby and Scarborough? That's not TOO far from the Leeds area and North
Yorkshire has loads of potential for further exploration (topper fish 'n'
chips in Whitby too!).

What about starting off at Saltburn in Cleveland and heading south towards
Whitby and Scarborough? That's not TOO far from the Leeds area and North
Yorkshire has loads of potential for further exploration (topper fish 'n'
chips in Whitby too!).

'tis a possibility David. A couple of years ago we spent a few nights at
Whitby YH. Walked to Robin Hood's Bay and found The Best Pub in the World
(so walk wasn't very long!). Following day had lunch at The Best F&C
Resteraunt in the World.

It isnt in this country but I'd recommend SW Ireland as a lot of the coast
is accessible and it has +3000' mountains too.
