Thanks PP - just watched it on CNN Asia Report : an interesting interview.

I happen to be stuck in a hotel at the moment, and had CNN on in the background when they announced the interview.

I like that he admits that Shimano is run like an American company. I always got the feeling that Shimano was run the way people with American MBAs run things, the same sort of attitude about the customer. American auto comapnies invented planned obsolescence; Shimano perfected it. It is also hard to imagine a real japanese company making something as hideous looking as STI shifters.

If I knew nothing about cycling and someone showed me a Record gruppo and a Dura Ace one then told me to decde which one was made by the Japanese, I would choose Record.

Unless you knew that an Italian company made one of two groups. The style would give the Record group away as Italian! :p
