I've just received a copy of the National 10 startsheets.
Of the 120 riders all are faster than 22.06

I blame it on the government.

That gives me a lot of scope :-)

At least for the past 20 years, I have been able to cycle 10 miles
in fewer minutes than my age in years. What is really horrifying
is that I used to be about the median speed of commuters until I
was about 50, but had reached the 80% level when I gave up - and
was still improving my position. My few trips on frequented
Sustrans routes put slightly higher.

I don't know if all the semi-athletic ones had used other routes,
retired or given up, but suspect not the first for the commuting
and probably the first for recreation. I know that I haven't seen
many cyclists as slow as me on rural rides in a long time.
