It's out there young man :-)

But not in the Brecon Beacons this morning sadly. Low fog around Monmouth
but clear further East. The reservoirs just south of the Storey Arms by the
A470 would have made good photos with still reflections in the sunshine
though.

I was referring to the "outdoors" :-)

Saturday was nice for a walk but disappointing up near Cray for a spot
of photography. It's a problem we have in Swansea - Lovely in the lower
valley, lousy when you get up to the head of the valley. It's the damn
mountains that does it :-)

Yeah, and it's hard to predict where the best inversion fogs will be, and
where to go to get the best photos of them.

Hi Graham

I had to be back at my parents for dinner at 1pm so it was a quick up & down
the path to the summit . I saw fog forecast for the region on the BBC and I
thought to myself 'what if ?' so I decided to jump in the car & take a look
.. Glad I did too .

Great stuff! Especially love the view of Telford, covered in low cloud! Best
way for the place!
Went up the Wrekin last November 18th and had a great afternoon stroll but
sadly couldn't get further south that weekend. Had an interesting chat up
there with a local bloke about geology and history and local kings etc.
Anybody here recognise themselves?

Having driven from flatest fenland early on Sunday to Tan-y-ffridd the
inversion didn't disperse until west of Oswestry. From the top of
Cadir Berwyn the inversion was visible in the distance to the east. On
the way back driving past the Wrekin the mast continually disappeared
and reappeared...

A mountain in front of me would have screwed up these shots of a
cormorant drying its wings on an island in the lake at Compstall.
I spotted it near the end of a Sunday stroll, and dug the camera out of
the rucksack, wrenched it out of the case, propped it on a convenient
bit of solid fencing and switched on. "No Card" appeared, because I
had left the main card in the PC after downloading the last lot, so I
had to grab the spare card and pop it in, whilst the bird obligingly
stayed put!
I had to use maximum zoom to 10x, the shutter speed was about 1/4
second, and I had to crop most of the image, so it lost some
sharpness....

FWIW, fog is a very rare occurence in Swansea, probably due to being on the
coast. When it does happen it's probably sea fog.

Are there any guidelines as to where it's most likely to form? I know it
tends to form in valleys, but which ones and why? Is water a factor? I
noticed mist starting to form over a lake once in the very early morning.

I didn't want anything fancy weather-wise just good visibility for a
couple of slides for a talk. All I got was miserable dull with weak
patchy sunlight.

Not at all good. Lovely little walk though.
