I started biking again over the summer but cold weather has hit. I have plenty of sweats and long under wear but I need advice on wind breaking. I was told to try Under Armour cold gear but I wanted other opinions first. What do you think?

Thanks, Bob Kennedy
I like a windproof vest (mine is windproof in front and has a mesh back) over all other layers. Today it was 41 F when I went out and I wore a mid-weight long undershirt, a lightweight fleece jacket, and the vest over the top. I wore bike shorts with fleece tights over them. I got a little hot at times but could unzip, and going downhill I continued to be glad I could zip the vest up again. I would have felt too sweaty in a windbreaker jacket. I wore double gloves and wrist warmers, wool socks, and a fairly light earband.

The lightweight Pearl-Izumi jacket my wife gave me for Christmas last year seems to provide exceptional wind protection. I took a long-ish ride (~2.5 hrs.) this weekend with temps in the low-mid 30's and a consistent wind at about 10MPH. I only needed a long-sleeve jersey underneath my jacket. I was chilly when I started out, but after ~15 minutes I was fine, even riding directly into the wind. (Note - I did wear a thin balaclava to protect my noggin/ears.)
