Clipless Shoes for Mt Biking - Suggestion?

Opposite how it sounds, "clipless" shoes are made for the clips your
describe. Methinks it's because they eliminate the need for toe
clips, instead clicking the sole to the pedal. You're looking for a
normal shoe that will ride well.
IMHO, clipless is awesome for mountain biking, and you should give it
a shot.
If you definitely don't want clipless, BMX places like www.danscomp.com
carry a variety of BMX shoes, which are very rarely intended for clips
but are intended for serious riding. They're also usually very
comfortable. Most comfortable and durable sneakers I ever owned were
BMX shoes, I believe Globe brand. Some skate shops sell BMX shoes as
well.
I don't know that these shoes will dry any faster than your tennis
shoes, but I'd bet they'll last longer and be more comfortable on
rides. They'll also grab your pedals better, which is nice if you're
not clicking in. I've got a serious scar from slipping a pedal on my
20" back in the day, and I still think had I been wearing better shoes
I'd have stuck the pedal and saved myself countless stitches. Oh
well.

Stiff shoes will be more comfortable as well as more efficient.

I prefer clipless peddles for all MBing be it free riding or XCing but
when I ride flats on my trail bike I find the shimano DX shoes are
comfortable and do a great job.

If you use nice big platform pedals, use whatever sneaker fits. Keen
makes some neat hybrid water shoe sneaker things that are pretty comfy
and dry quick. Just avoid cotton socks and you'll be fine.

I have spotted the Keen brand shoe and I will also be looking at the
Shimano and other BMX brand shoes that you list.
