  1. Hi,

I was wondering if anyone here had any experience with the Clifbar line
of energy products. I was going to make an order for a few boxes of
gels/builder bars/etc. but would like to know some feedback first.

    Thanks,
    Wintered

Ok, butt not enough lube for a good ramming. Ok for mild plugging
    though.

    I love the gels.

Clif Bars are good for snacks or post-race nutrition, but if I have
them before or during a long run I usually have to take a bathroom
break before too long. YMMV; they're fine for a lot of folks.

I've heard they have a gummy-like thing now that's meant to be taken
during a workout or a race; haven't tried it, but it sounds
    intriguing.

  4. Yeah. The Clif Shot Blocks. They're about 1-inch cubes that eat a lot
like a gummy bear. I took a few with me when I ran Detroit and they were
pretty good. Not messy like gels, and, for me anyway, easy on the stomach
(although I still think I prefer vanilla Gu). I don't have enough
experience to say whether they're better or worse for endurance.

My local running stores didn't have them yet, but I found them at Sports
Authority. They had them in a cranberry-and-something flavor and lemon-
    lime (I tried cranberry).

This is my experience also. I love them after a race or long workout.

absolutely. try them out on your training runs. i have
had VERY bad results immediately after eating
a Clif Bar (this happened twice). beats me what
is bothering me, but they make me sick. right away.

I love all of their products, especially the gels. I bought the Shot
Blocks but haven't tried them yet.

Your best bet is to go to REI (or order from REI.com) since you get 20%
off all nutrition products if you order at least 12, and you can mix and
match (so you could buy one each of the bars, gels, and shot blocks to
see what you like). And their starting prices are pretty good ($1, I
think, for a gel, so I get them for 80 cents each; you can do better
than that elsewhere, I think, but only by buying a box of 24 of the same
    flavor).

Your finger has been stuck like that for quite a while. I don't like
MDs much more than you do, but face it, it's time to get that looked
    at.

What's that you say? Sure, sure, I think you could see a chiro instead
of a real doc if you insist. Recommend one? I thought you already had
a chiro, but if you insist, try this one: http://tinyurl.com/cu32u

  10. This month, Trailrunner magazine has a great break-down of nutritional
    gels and shots and drinks.
It's worth a look and answers alot of questions - like, what is this
    stuff made out of?

I like the bars for quick snacks. I use both Clif and Car-Boom gels.
When it's cold out, the Car-Booms are more liquid, as the Clif gels
are thicker. I also like the new Clif Bloks, they are gummy blocks
of electrolyte replacement. Personlly, I can't eat the bars in
marathons, my stomach won't go for it. But the gels and bloks sit
    fine.

I'm with Teresa in the quick-snack thing. I have also found them
(the bars) to cause GI upset while running if I eat one during, or
even long before the start. They are good snacks, though.

I've never tried the gels, but I've tried other gels and just don't
like them. My heart rate rises and I get some sort of spike that
makes me feel like I am losing cardiovascular control for a little
bit of time. This is regardless of amount of water intake. I just
up feeling sort of interrupted and stressed.

    cheers,

Why don't you get 100x better feedback - your own experience - before
ordering in bulk? As in try a single bar, a gel, a gummy brick before
ordering a gross of 'em. Surely you can find Clif bars somewhere you
ordinarily shop, unless you're posting from somewhere like Bhutan or
    the Congo or Montana.

And surely you realize that asking specifically about Clif products, as
opposed to gels, bars, and other lab-grade "food" regardless of brand,
in your apparently first-ever usenet post (per google groups) makes
some of us suspicious that perhaps you're subtly shilling/spamming for
Clif. In case you are: please be aware that a Clif bar infected with
the bubonic plague once wiped out an entire branch of my family.

Anyhow: I don't like their gels nearly as well as some other company's,
whose name I won't mention now that they've spammed the group. The
bars are decent but my main use for them is as an "emergency food" -
e.g. if I'm travelling and not sure if/when I'll receive a meal on the
plane or train, I like to have a couple bars handy. I've learned not
to eat one during or before a hard or long run. They're OK after, but
my strong post-run preference is for a sports drink and real food, not
some granola/candy bar hybrid from a chem lab.

Pendejo, who realizes that some people's idea of "real food" does come
    from a chem lab

  17. I've only tried the bars while hiking and rate them rather tasty.
Certainly more interesting than a powerbar. I prefer powerbars for
running for ease of use and that they have one purpose, to supply
energy. Since when I'm running taste doesn't matter to me but while
    hiking it rates higher.

I think you should experiment with a single "dosage" before you commit
to a few boxes. Anything you eat is highly subject to your own body.
And while I can go on about how Cliff bars work in my body they may or
may not work the same way in yours.

  18. Love the ClifBars after a race. Use the Clifshots during my half and
full marathons and on my long training runs. Have never had an issue
    with them.

Tried the ClifBloks and was not impressed with them. To "gummy" for my
    taste.

    Go to the clifbar website

the team and get a sample packet as well.

  20. Yes. Love the Jelly Belly sport beans. Just so damn hard to find in
Atlanta. Walgreens had some and I bought some, then went back to get
more and they did not have them any longer.
