Clever earpiece bluetoothy things or suchlike

I've looked for one but not found anything for bicycles. The nearest is
the Tandem Talk but that is a wired connection for talking between
captain and stoker. There are systems for motorbikes but they are not
cheap (£180+ for two) and need something to mount the microphone on -

You could also use Motorola walkie talkies on vox with headsets (with
suitably wind shielded microphones but they tend to get through
batteries at a high rate of knots.

Now discontinued and replaced by the DJ-7T apparently. $230 ea plus
another $44 for the earphone and mic.

It was a couple of years ago thread that I wrote in URC that I dug into for
that info! Caught out!!

I used to study FM as a 5 year old. I'm sure it's easy to make happen.
However, bluetooth is rubbish! The latest mobiles are rubbish, I'm sure
iPhone will be no better.

I use bluetooth all the time to run my phone earpiece and to sync the
phone data with my computer. Seems to work just fine.

Must be my earpiece then. If I have my phone in my pocket the earpiece
doesn't work very well.

Mine starts to break up when I'm in the next room from my phone. Try
another earpiece. Mind you I always get strange looks from people that
see me walking or cycling while apparently talking to myself.

I have used a 436MHz (licence-free) system, with a vox mike at both ends,
range can be very good, particulalry in open country, but wind noise both
into the mike, and with the earpiece, is intrusive. As Tony says, they can
use batteries pretty fast! (my set is a fairly long-in-the-tooth Binatone
set-up).
Blootooth between riders would not give good enough range, it would not
answer the wind-noise problem, but might meet the battery life issues.
