Jim- One great thing about moving to Florida is increased outside training time(although swimming
outside is a bit cold right now~but there are some outdoor heated pool programs). The St Pete Mad
Dogs is a great tri group but if you're travelling from Clearwater, you might have a 30 minute drive
which could be tough during the week(but are excellent). Most of their workouts are in and around
downtown St Petersburg. stpetemaddogs.comstpetemaddogs.comOpen ↗
The YMCA in Clearwater has a great workout facility (with indoor pool). The entire facility is in
the finishing stages of a massive refurbishment. suncoastymca.orgclea.aspOpen ↗ . The group
that I work out with met thru the "Y" and have many tri workouts planned during the
week(typically at
5:45AM and/or ~6:00PM). You can check it out online at: www.trilewis.com We are a pretty active
group with all speeds welcome. Right now we are training for some of the winter half or full
marathons but will be getting geared up to train for tri's shortly.
One of the best olympic distance triathlons in the US is located in St Petersburg. Registration for
St Anthony's Triathlon April 25,2004 opened this past week and is filling fast. If you're interested
in that distance race, you should sign up ASAP because it should reach capacity within the next few
days: satriathlon.comsatriathlon.comOpen ↗
If you have any specific questions, you're welcome to give me a call at

If you give me a call when you get down here, I'll also gladly meet you at one of the practices
to introduce you around.
I'll look forward to hearing from you- David Geldbart

I will be moving from Central Ohio to Clearwater-St. Pete, Florida. Does anyone have information
about the local Tri-scene? Is there a decent recreation center for swimming and weights? Any
weekly/weekend group rides and evening runs?
Also, are there areas or towns where I should stay away when looking for a place to live due to
traffic or other issues?
Please contact me backchannel if you can help. Any information would be great!
Thanks,
