AIM: Chronic fatigue is the more frequent symptom identified in the
course of hereditary haemochromatosis. A screening for this disorder
was carried out in 120 primary care patients consulting for
unexplained chronic fatigue. SUBJECTS AND METHODS: Transferrin
saturation and serum ferritin were determined in all patients. If
    transferrin saturation was >or= 45% and serum ferritin >or= 300 microg/
l, HFE1 genotyping for mutations C282Y and H63D was completed.
RESULTS: One hundred and twenty patients were recruited, 19-86 years
old, including 62 males and 58 females. 45 patients (38%) presented
with serum ferritin >or= 300 microg/l. Thirty two patients (27%)
presented with transferrin saturation >or= 45%. Twenty two patients
(18%) presented with these two pathological values. Four C282Y/H63D
compound heterozygous, one H63D/H63D homozygous, and eight simplex
heterozygous (6 H63D and 2 C282Y) genotypes were found. Patients with
serum ferritin >or= 300 microg/l were predominantly male (89%), older
(57 year) and plethoric (BMI: 26.4) corresponding mainly to
dysmetabolic hyperferritinemia. CONCLUSION: None of these 120 patients
consulting for unexplained chronic fatigue was found with hereditary
haemochromatosis. Therefore observed prevalence is 0, with upper limit
of 95% confidence interval at 2.5%. But the high prevalence (38%) of
serum ferritin >or= 300 microg/l must be emphasized, corresponding
    usually to dysmetabolic hyperferritinemia.

    Hi!

I am new to the format for this group. I am a little puzzled by it all
but grateful for the advise brought forward in response for to my
    post.

All I know is that My PCP and Rheumatologist both said iron deficiency
and the prenatal vitamins appear to be helping me feel better but it
is too early to tell if this is a true statement. I have not been
retested for Anemia but i guess what all of you are trying to tell me
is that something in the Prenatal vitamins is helping me.

I am on google alert for the words 'Fibromyaligia' and 'Yaqakallah'
so if anyone would like me to see your response please include one of
these words so I w3ill respond to you so you will not think I am
    ignoring any of you.

    Thanks for the info!

  8. You happened to come with an anemia question earlier, to a
thread that attributed a considerable number of the world's ills
to an EXCESSIVE amount of blood iron.
So, putting that aside, you have beenevaluated and found to
be iron deficient, and prenatal vitamins are helping you. That's
    good.
Women can often lose iron because of menstruation, and not
be replacing it from dietary sources.
However, be aware that too much iron can be a problem, too,
and that is the main topic of Ironjustice, who has an excessive
number of periods (different kind) as well.
Yes, Vitamin C helps in the absorption of iron, as well as a lot
of other things. There will be some Vitamin C (ascorbic acid)
in the prenatal vitamin. But more may help you deal with stress.
    http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/vitcminstres.html
If you are moving to another water source, you might have a
high iron content. Would be good to get that information, and
    there are test kits http://www.waterinc.com/water_test_kit.htm
available for that determination if you do not have an available
agency that will do it. There are several kit sources, the kit
mentioned here is $21. But get a bacterial count locally. You
might also have pesticide and herbicide runnoff, and people
with fibromyalgia often have multichemical sensitivity.
Well water is frequently high in iron, and simply taking a multi-
vitamin without iron might be effective in getting your iron up
if your well happens to be high in the iron.
Also, watch out for copper in the water, an excess can cause
symptoms of depression, possible other conditions as well.
    http://www.healingedge.net/store/page190.html
Vitamin C can serve to reduce copper toxicity, (Ironjustice's
personal problems as a vegetarian could be due to copper
    excess.)
Since copper doesn't get mentioned often as a metal that
can cause problems, I'll mention that Dr Slagle noted the
copper-caused depression in the book "The Way Up From
    Down" over ten years ago.
Hope that answers some of your questions.

  9. I wanted to thank you for all the great information you gave me
concerning the good and bad of well water. I will definitely look into
    this ASAP!

I am originally from a small farming town in Mississippi were the
County Agent handled things such as this for free. When I was a kid I
called him to find someone to trim my pony's hooves and he came out
and did it for free himself. Don't know how things are handled up here
in Nebraska(just moved up here last November) but it is a start. I
will also speak with the Landlord of the property.

Could you tell me what levels are too high/low for a person with
Fibromyalgia as I was recently dignosed with this in April of this
year. Could I take a water sample to my PCP and he run a lab check on
    it?

And, is well water consistent year around or do I need to check the
water often? And if I find the water not suitable for me are their
ways to filter out the bad or do I need to stop drinking it all
together and purchase bottled water instead?

Sorry for all the questions. I am an abandoned wife with 2 little kids
and now disabled and need to be as healthy as I can be for the
    children.

Oh, about the Pesticide issue. My last job in Mississippi was as a
Pest/Termite Inspector where I injured my back trenching a rather
large house and they let me go that day hence the losing of the house
and the move so far away from home. I was only there for 6 weeks but
no one including me wore any protection for the pesticide...ie
clothing, masks, gloves, regulators etc. That has always bothered me
that I might have poisoned myself and my fibro is a misdiagnosis.

    Thanks in advance!

  10. The organophoshates are especially bad for exposure.
And when you talk about a wrong diagnosis, that certainly
gets into other realms of confidence with your physician.
There are certainly plenty of commentaries about chemical
    exposures having neurotoxic effects.
Some people even have shower heads that remove chlorine
so that whole-body exposure, including inhalation, will be at
    a minimum.
Might want to be aware of the Co-Cure "Good Doctors" list
    for Nebraska http://www.co-cure.org/USA_NE.htm
And you might want to consider becoming more familiar with
    multichemical sensitivity. http://www.ourlittleplace.com/mcs.html
Well water can change with the seasons, or stay the same.
Depends on where the aquifer goes, and what's on the surface
    as it's being formed.
Sorry, but you're going to need to become knowledgable about
    a lot of stuff.

  11. I would like to echo Michael's sentiments, and let you know about
something I learned about on PBS. When looking at the quality of the
water in four or five major metropolitan cities (like LA, NYC, Miami
and St. Louis), the scientists expected the water from LA and NYC to be
the worst. It ends up that St. Louis had the worst water, due to a high
concentration of pesticide and herbicidal chemicals used in farming.
This can cause infertility and increased miscarriages in women, and
lowered sperm counts in men. My advice to you would be to get one of
those water filtration thingies on your faucet, and also possibly on
your showerhead like was mentioned earlier. And yes, water testing would
    be a good idea.

Also, making sure that the doctor knows about this history. One other
thing I would certainly recommend is to see if you can get some aloe
vera and take it internally, because it has so many healing properties
to it. A link to a wonderful article and a good source for it can be
    found here: http://www.newstarget.com/021858.html.
This might help you detox from the harmful chemicals you came into
    contact with.

Blessings to you and your precious children...

large house and they let me go that day hence the losing of the house
and the move so far away from home. I was only there for 6 weeks but
no one including me wore any protection for the pesticide...ie
clothing, masks, gloves, regulators etc. That has always bothered me
that I might have poisoned myself and my fibro is a misdiagnosis.

    Thanks in advance!

But more may help you deal with stress.http://www.annieappleseedproject.org/vitcminstres.html
If you are moving to another water source, you might have a
high iron content. Would be good to get that information, and
    there are test kitshttp://www.waterinc.com/water_test_kit.htm
available for that determination if you do not have an available
agency that will do it. There are several kit sources, the kit
mentioned here is $21. But get a bacterial count locally. You
might also have pesticide and herbicide runnoff, and people
    withfibromyalgiaoften have multichemical sensitivity.
Well water is frequently high in iron, and simply taking a multi-
vitamin without iron might be effective in getting your iron up
if your well happens to be high in the iron.
Also, watch out for copper in the water, an excess can cause
symptoms of depression, possible other conditions as well.http://www.healingedge.net/store/page190.html
Hope that answers some of your questions
