Santa arrived at our front door a little while ago. He was wearing a blue uniform instead of his usual red outfit, and drove a square white truck instead of his usual sleigh. He's working undercover because it isn't Christmas yet. He had a foodie gift for us. 😄
A Ronco Showtime Platinum Rotisserie! This puppy will hold up to a 15 pound turkey. The pictures on the box have been making me drool. Very unlady-like.
We bought three 11-pound turkeys when they were on sale last month, and one is already in the refrigerator, thawing.

Congrats....Now you just need a boy Scout...for the tieing of the bird...A very important ritual for those whom spin birds...Or the wings'll flop about and burn.

Thanks! This should be a lot of fun! I didn't notice a Boy Scouts manual in the packaging, but I'll look again. :-)

That's a great present. I saw one at Costco & decided to wait or tell the kids that is what I wanted & they sold 'em out faster than condoms at a hooker convention. Boy was I disappointed.

I want to know exactly how wonderful it is.
We should be doing the turkey on Thursday or Friday, and I'll keep ya posted. I hope you can get your hands on one. This looks great!

I've got this rotisserie thing downstairs that we won in a raffle. I'll have to dig it out and see what it's all about. Will email you the specs. We have never used it and probably never will.

The oddest, yet neat all the same, trick I ever saw was a bunch of boy scout leaders cooking a couple turkey in a metal trash can. They put the turkey on the in the fire pit, then turned the can over on top and banked the edges and "top" (bottom of can) with coals like a big dutch oven. It's been a few years so I might have forgotten a step or two but it was.. industrious and memorable?

huzzah! christmas has been arriving all month for me. The only food related gifts I've gotten so far are cheese books, though a little bird tells me there is a bread machine in my future**
** of course that little bird is my dad because he didn't know what to get me so he asked my sister and she asked me and I told her then he called me to make sure he got the right one.

Very cool.
Have fun with the new toy.
We certainly intend to!

With the 2nd bird - try brining.
The turkeys we got have had their moisture enhanced by up to 8% solution, consisting of turkey broth, salt, and spices. Would brining be a good idea?

I have brined that type of bird before with an "apple" brine. I like the sweetness it imparts. This last Turkey day I brined a butterball even though it was not necessary.
