I have one of these - I've found it works very well - needs a separate
pressure guage though...

Zefal HPX, also known as Truflo HPX. Can be attached under top tube--search
Google Groups to find details on that.

Or if you insist on a mini pump instead, consider carrying a CO2 inflator as
well to get your road tyres more easily up to full pressure. It's nice to
be able to carry on riding as normal after a puncture.

Blackburn Airstick AS1. I like them so much I have four, one for each
bike. Small, light, nicely designed, will pump to 120psi without a
struggle, and you can get full kits of spare parts for maintenance.

Glad you mentioned that. I've lost my HPX-4 and was looking to replace
it, but it would appear that the Zefal pumps are not in stock as they
once were. The Truflo is the same thing right?

Daniele,

I believe there are four varients of the Topeak Morph (MTB, Road, either w
or w/o gauge). Highly recommended.
If you want small, the SKS Wese is that but has only a Presta head. It will
easily get a road tire to 140psi though. (trades volume for pressure)

They are.
Coincidentally, I recently lost one of my Zefal's andhad to replace it
(the innards fell out) .
The Truflo is identical 'cept for the printing on the barrel.

I bought one of those from ebay just last night - £3.20.

I should have it next week so I'll give it a whirl and report how it
performs. I'm also a fan of the Blackburn Airstick (although I only
own one, not four), it will be interesting to see how it fairs in
comparison.

Bit late, but a Topeak PocketRocket

Shorter and lighter than the Blackburn and about 7 pounds cheaper. I
have used the Blackburn pumps in the past with the older twist lock
heads. Nice pump action, T-handle, but when I wanted spares (new twist
lock cap) they were vapourware. Whole pump trashed for the price of a
small plastic ring collar.

The Topeak recently scored Recommended in C+, but the text more
tellingly stated it was the pump they all took out on their rides most.
It's every bit as good as my Brompton HPX and very small.

Pocket Rocket works well for its size. Of course it takes a lot of strokes
but eventually gets a road bike tyre up to decent pressure. Improved by
filling in end of handle with expoxy putty.

Another pump of the same length, but incredibly much lighter still, is
Barbeiri Carb One (from Deeside Cycles). Works ok except at high pressure
needs to be continually pushed hard onto the valve to stop it leaking, since
it doesn't have a lock lever.

I carry one of the above two in my bag when I don't want to take my HPX, but
with an Innovations Air Chuck and 16g cartridge in addition.

And it's rarely possible to achieve what pump manufacturers claim, I find.
So I wouldn't expect more than 90 psi at most from it, and wouldn't be
surprised if 60 psi was very hard work. (I've not tried it, though).

I've got two sets of Blackburn spares in the spares box now - I lost a
part, and so I went out and bought a spares kit; unbeknownst to me, my
girlfriend bought me one at the same time, from a different supplier. So
not vapourware at all, and as far as I'm concerned a pump which can be
kept maintained is a Good Thing[tm].
