Quite often when I'm warming up I get a pain in the left side of my chest. It feels pretty much like a stitch. If I warm up properly then it's generally gone by the time I run. I've had this in morning runs and evening, and it seems to be independent of any eating beforehand. It's by no means a recent thing - I've had it at various points over the last 10 years (I'm 28). It does seem to be related to running - I've never had it when cycling to work, nor when rowing.
Any ideas? It's more of an annoyance than a problem, but I don't want it to crop up in any races....

Hi Ben,
Probably ligaments. I get something similar, but more around my sternum. A few years ago, it caused quite a bit of excitement at the hospital, but turned out to be benign.

Since he's had it ten years it's probably not serious. It's really hard to believe so many runners are obsessed with minor aches and anomalies.

Really? Why shouldn't obsessive/compulsive types obsess about the aches and pains caused by their compulsion?
