  1. I'm doing incline dumbbell flys and dips along with various cable crosses.
Still no success on the chest definition. Abs are good, arms are good, chest
needs definition. I need exercises where I can actually feel the resistance
    on the chest.

Plenty of dumbells, dips, and cross dressers on here, so you should get
    some good advice.

    Tried table push-aways?

If you've got visible veins running down your arms and the six-pack is
showing but "needs definition" on the chest then I'd guess you don't
have much muscle there. That or you need to reduce your bodyfat
    percentage even more.

If your definition is truly good then it's got to be a lack of muscle,
right? Whatever happened to good old flat benches and inclines. The
dips sound great, but what Serious Muscle™ are you building with
    flyes and cable crossovers?

Feeling the resistance and more isolation for your chest is the
opposite of what you need, most likely. If you can see abs and have
definition in your arms, you simply have weak chest development. Do
dips first in your routine and do them heavy. Follow them with
incline dumbell presses instead of flyes. Another variant would be
decline dumbell bench press followed by barbell inclines, among many
variations. Long story short, pick two compound chest movements and
hit them hard and heavy. Change them every six workouts. If you
train each bodypart every five days or even less frequently (like once
a week), you can throw in a isolation movement at the end of the
routine like cable crossovers or flyes. Also, if your chest
development has been stagnant choose a rep range you have never done
before. If you always do sets of 8-12, stick in the 4-7 rep range or
vice versa. Again, two compound movements done hard, one isolation
exercise at the end, and a rep range you are not accustomed to.

  7. Thanks for everyone's input. I think some people in the group get a little
carried away with the insults. I am no expert on fitness. I don't claim to
be in great shape. I'm looking for advice on certain nutritional elements as
well as developing certain parts of the body.

When I say that I am happy with my ab and arm development this does not mean
to imply that I am totally ripped and ready for competition. It means simply
that they look fine to me.

I'm hoping that the more experienced can give me some useful advice. If my
questions seem inane or completely stupid to some of you, I apologize in
advance. Hopefully, the purpose of this group is to disseminate useful
information and not to waste people's time with childish insults.

I'm sure the response to this post will be telling as to where everyone
    stands.

If you can't stand the heat....

Tried bench pressing? Lots of folks with well-developed chest do lots
of bench pressing, so there might be a connection there.

If you're looking for something exotic that's reported to work well, you
could try the "crush curl." Stand up, take a pair of 10 lb. plates,
smooth side out, and hold them between your palms. You have to press in
pretty hard to keep them from falling. Then curl them up and down, the
lower you can get them without dropping them, the better. If you're
studly enough, try more weight, either heavier plates or even more than
two plates at a time. I guarantee you your chest will be aware of what
you're doing. 🙂 Anyone who can do this with a pair of 25's, feel free
to post your studliness here. Watch out for your toes on this one,
    Comrades. 🙂

Well, that's what I was getting at in my initial reply to your
question. They may look fine to you, but that may just be a long way
from low enough bodyfat to display your chest in a BeachBody fashion.

    Quoted message said:

    stupid to some of ySNIP

Your question was completely valid and I hope that my reply was both
read and considered. You probably need more attention to diet (to get
the ripped/ish/ look you seem to desire) as well as compound exercises
including bench and inclines (to build the muscle).

Cable crossovers and flyes with light weight and lots of concentration?
Not cutting it for building a chest. No.

Well, it's been my perception that the purpose of this group is to talk
about guns and to pick on Will Brink cuz he's so EFFING SHORT! But,
yeah, there's also the off comment about exercise which is nice.

Have a great weekend and hit your chest with some flat bench for a few
sets using a pyramid rep progression: start with a lighter weight for
12 reps, add weight for 8-10 reps, more weight for 6-8 reps and then
drop the weight for a pump set of 15-20 reps. Rest two or three days,
    repeat.

Don't be a crybaby [censored] about newsgroups. You'll get good advice, but,
yeah, at times you'll have to sift through some satire and assorted
    piles of sh!t.

  13. Bench Press, Incline Press, and the butterfly machine. I use the
butterfly machine that is also used for rear deltoids, having my arms
totally outstretched gives a good stretch to my chest and gives it a
good workout in my opinion. I haven't had good luck getting as good a
chest workout using dumbell flys or cable crossovers.

    No.

Definition is the combination of visible muscle + low body fat.

    With me so far?

If you already have visible abs, that means you probably
already have low body fat and simply haven't got enough
    chest muscle.

To add muscle, lift heavy and eat a lot (more than maintenance).

To lose fat, lift heavy and don't eat much (less than mainenance).

Get it? If you're trying to do both at the the same time, well,
    it ain't gonna happen.

    Er, yeah.

Everyone stands right behind you ready to add insult to injury and some
will even throw in useful info. It's a package deal. You don't get to
    order a la carte.

You didn't say how old you are, but one of the things I've noticed is
that young men, say before 25 or so, often seem to have pretty flat
chests compared to arms and abs. Later, as they continue to mature,
muscle seems easier to gain on chest, thighs and larger areas like
those. This may be a metabolic thing, where it takes a lot of muscle
to make a visible difference on the chest, whereas arms can look bigger
with smaller mass gain, and a lot of muscle is hard to build when
you're body is burning every calorie you see just by virtue of being
young. I don't know. It's a casual observation at best.

Anyway, I suspect you need to lift heavy on basic chest movements and
eat enough to support muscle gain. Don't worry about flys and such for
now, and then as the mass begins to develop, you will see more
'definition' when you lose any fat that may have accumulated. I like a
combination of heavy dumbells and dips - careful with those db's
though, they're a [censored] when they get away from you.
