A local chain has Cherries 99 cents a pound.

Other than canning and eating as is.

    Ideas?

    Dimitri

Cherry salsa. Good with chicken! Pit the cherries and rough dice them.
Combine with diced tomato, diced red onion, minced jalapeno or habanero
(depending on your heat index) and the juice of a lime. Add some cilantro
and chill to let the flavors meld.

Wow, that's an interesting idea! Thanks, Kimberly.

I'll trade you the $4/lb that I've been paying in Mpls, Ranee.

They're about $2.70 a pound in our store.

Denver area Safeways and King Soopers (Kroger) have cherries
for $1.28 a pound this week. And they are wonderful.

    Still ~$3 at Alberston's.

Interestingly at Albertson's East aka Shaw's they're selling cherries
this week for $1.88 a pound.

Sure is - I've saved it too.
    Thanks, Kimberly!

Cherry pie already? Our sweet cherries are available now.

    <snip>

The sweet cherries I bought, I should have mentioned, were on sale at
Von's for $1.49 lb. I just finished pitting 7 cups of cherries. (I
have a system for making sure no pits get into the pie...I use my
cherry pitter over a 2 C. glass measuring cup and, once the pit hits
the glass, I pluck it out and load the next one. Also cuts down on the
    cherry juice spatter.)

Since the cherry pie is going to be for the Fourth of July cookout, I
rummaged around in my Christmas cookie cutters and got out the star.
Thought I'd lay stars of pie dough all over the top.

That's one of the reasons I like to get my fresh cherries pitted. It's a
tedious job pitting cherries and I invariable have a brain fart while
doing it. One bowl for pits one for cherries. So it's pit cherry pit
cherry pit cherry pit cherry pit cherry pit cherry pit cherry pit cherry
    pit pit cherry pit. :-)

Well, you know, you just need to come and visit. $1.29 is the lowest
price this week, and they have been incredible, huge, dark and sweet. 🙂

Ranee, how did you make them? I tried to make brandied cherries a few
years ago and made a mess of it. Please, post recipe and/or instructions.

Thank you and have a nice holiday week end. M

Thank you, it was lovely. I hope yours was, too.

As for the brandied cherries, it was pretty simple, involving a
skewer, really good cherries and brandy. I will have to pull out the
recipe to remember the method. Give me a few days.

I also owe Wayne a blueberry recipe from a while back. They were
    both in the same book.

The cherry vinegar sounds interesting too. Not only am I curious
about how it's made I'm curious about how it's used.

There are a couple recipes I have, and largely I use them for salads,
or in a vinaigrette for grilling fish. If you are adventurous, you can
make a pickled cherry recipe and use the excess liquid for the vinegar.
Also in the same book, Fancy Pantry, that the other two were in. Again,
give me a few days to get them and type them up.

    O

  11. Here in Tennessee, Bing Cherries are $3.99--$4.99 a pound. I found
some at Sams for about $2.50 and thought I was in heaven.

And Rainer cherries (my favorites) are out of sight--$5.99--$10.99 a
pound. I love them, but at those prices, I would rather buy a slab of
    good steak.
