I have no connection with Aldi, except as a satisfied customer.

I was just going to post something similar!

Nubuck/Cordura boots for £17.99, with a Tentex breathable membrane and
Coolmax liner.

Walking poles, pedometer, lightweight waterproofs, and.........
a magnetic compass for £1.99!

I bought a wallpaper stripper (steamer) for £13.99 today.
This does not in any way oblige me to start decorating, but if I do it
will make life so much easier.... ;-).

it. Is this sort of low-tech stuff still used by schoolkids to do things
other than stab each other with?

I used one for many years in the drawing office, until CAD was
introduced on PCs, somewhere around 1970, I believe....

If the walking gear is half as good as the cycling gear it will be well
worth making the trip. Be aware that there sizing is generous. I
normally wear 40"-42" chest tops and in Aldi cycling tops I wear medium
38"-40" and they're plenty big enough. I am of course assuming the
walking gear is made to a similar fit. I'm now waiting for the camping
gear as I need some self inflating mattresses for car camping and they
were only about 9 quid last time.
