I've been looking around forever for a pair of cheap clear glasses that I can use at night for riding but everything I find are in bike shops and they cost far too much money. Aside from going to the hardware store and getting some shop glasses are there any inexpensive glear lense glasses I can get?
I guess they are like shop glasses, but I find shooting glasses excellent and cheap. Go to WalMart or KMart, etc., or a dedicated sporting goods store, and look for them in the sporting goods (gun) section. I saw a set for $12 at WalMart that included changeable lenses-clear, grey, amber. The single glasses in amber or clear usually run about $5; they can get scratched up after a while, but the price is right. Most shooting glasses wrap around and give good wind/bug protection. Furthermore they usually do not have a rim on top that can block your vision. The rim is less of a problem on a 'bent, but definitely restricts vision on an upright bike where your head is directed downward. I was in the market for dark glasses as mine are pretty scratched and have lost the nose piece. Found a set in the shoe section (near the steel-toed boots!) of a local WalMart that is designated as safety glasses; they come in a protective plastic box-maybe I won't scratch these up so easily if I return them to the box before throwing them in a pannier. They seemed to fit will and were only $5; cheaper than the $10 shades I find at convenience stores (and better wrap- around protection).
A good quality pari of shop glasses is just the ticket.
I use a wrap around style pair of safety glasses made for use in the sun. I paid $4.95 and they work great. None of those overpriced, designer bike glasses for me. When I passed 40 years of age, I stopped worrying about the cool factor.
