Thanks - but I'm not sure if I understand your response. I've noticed
this change in odour more or less from the word go (beginning of July),
it's just that it didn't occur to me to mention it here until recently.
So if this is a sign of ketosis, surely it's a sign that ketosis
kicked in several weeks ago. Or am I misunderstanding something?
You didn't mention being in ketosis in previous posts
and it's important to know when someone on Atkins is in
ketosis. Ketosis is a primary tool on Atkins. No
moention of it before means to me either you're on some
other plan or you weren't in ketosis.
Sure, it's definitely a sign that you've been in ketosis
for a bunch of weeks. The usual pattern is about two
weeks intense, followed by much more mild from then on,
with strong days for various reasons. Your experience
of increased activity plus a day over 200 graqms of
dietary fat would have definitely kicked up your level
of ketosis back to what it was at it's peak.
Is it a problem that your pattern didn't have as much
decrease as most folks so you can still notice it after
the initial two weeks and before your one-day special?
Not really. But think over whether you're being
sensative because it's an unexpected smell. Knowing
that smell equals ketosis and thus is to be desired,
does it now seem to you that it's mild not intense?
Mild would be good ;^). That is, has anyone other than
you noticed.
A good thing about the smell on your breath or skin.
It's far more accurate than those ketostix. If you can
tell that you have the smell no matter how faint, then
you are in ketosis and spilling extra ketones. Ketones
will dissolve through skin so they can't be hoarded
inside the body the way glucose can be, so the body
doesn't have mechanisms to attempt to hold it in.
Most folks the amount of ketones generated after the
first two weeks closely matches the amount their cells
burn. So only tiny amounts leak out in the breath and
urine and so little out of the skin most can't tell
that way. The question becomes whether you have extra
sensative smell or you are producing excess ketones.
Nothing needs to be done about extra sensative smell.
If you're producing excess ketones it is a sign that
user body is extremely happy to go into ketosis and
that leads to a fast loss rate (maybe as much as 2
pounds per week even with only 40 pounds to go).
While it's fabulous to lose ultra-fast, there's the
issue of "easy come, easy go" that suggests you would
be more inclined than average to regain as well as
lose. It's a caution against falling off the plan
and thus it's a caution to move steadily through the
phases of the plan sure you are as prepared as possible
for the maintenance phase. "When you fail to plan you
plan to fail" applies. Following all of the steps in
sequence equals planning for maintenance.
