  1. Hi,

Bike is Saracen Hardtrax with QR front wheel and bolt on back.
Can I change the axle to QR same as front, or are the hubs made specific
    for QR or bolt on?

    Back hub is Shimano HB-TS-30

    Thanks

No problem, take it to a LBS or if you have the tools a pair of cone
spanners (thin ones) you could do it yourself.

On the non drive side just unscrew the lock nut with one spanner while
holding the cone with the other. Infact you should be able to get away
with one cone spanner for the cone and a normal nut rounder(tm)
(adjustable spanner) for the lock nut. You may want to apply liberal
amounts of grease to keep the ball bearings in position as you remove
the axle, I am assuming its not cartridge bearings.

Leave a little bit of play in the rear axle when you put it back
together and the QR lever will remove the play when you tighten it to
hold the wheel in place. Not too much play.

Thanks, the reason I asked was, I did ask at the LBS a while back and
was told I would need the complete hub and rebuild or new wheel!

I have the necessary tools, and have found a website with the parts
list, I have two questions if again you could help please?

    1. Where will I be able to buy these parts in UK?
    2. It mentions "Over lock nut dimension", can you tell me what this
means so I order the correct parts?

Here is a link to the diagram.

    Many thanks for your help.

A decent LBS should be able to supply you with a hollow axle and a qr
skewer, where are you. Ring around. Ive never had a problem doing this,
although when I did it, it was from QR to solid...

I think this is the dimension as measured between the lock nuts, ie the
hub width. For a 146mm axle the OL is 135mm with 5.5mm for the drop outs
either side. I could be wrong. It depends on your hub but for 7,8,9
speed shimano cassette hubs the OL would be 135mm.

    I am in Ayrshire.
Local LBS are not very helpful, I usually buy on-line from Wiggle, Chain
    Reaction or Edinburgh Bicycle C.

    Measures 135mm between drop-outs.

    Thanks again for your help.
