  1. This is to anybody out there that may still have their hands on a simple
massage chair flow that I could possibly utilize for this weekends community
service event that I'm doing. I volunteered along with a few others but not
having extensive training in the chair massage techniques I thought I'd poll
the NG and see if anyone had a simple 15-20 minute flow they could direct me
to either on the web or in print or even email! :-)

I'm still a student and this weekends work is part of our core curriculum for the completion
certificate. In case you were wondering why I am doing something I'm not extremely familiar with as
a community service. It's part of the learning process..

Thanks for any information you can give me!

    Have a great weekend.

This is my "standard" run for a 15-minute chair massage. Depending on how much time you spend
on each element, it can be compressed to as little as five minutes, or stretched out to 20 or
    30 minutes.

Start with the shoulders--upper trapezius and the base of the neck. Then work down the spine, and
back up again. Next I move around to one side and do the shoulder joint, then down the arm to the
hand. I switch over to the other hand, and up the other arm to the shoulder joint again. I finish
off by working on the neck, the base of the skull and the scalp.

I put a kitchen timer where I can se it, to help pace myself. Once it dings, I spend another 30
seconds or so "finishing up" before I tell the client that I'm done (to my mind, that lets them feel
a bit "pampered", that I give them a bit of extra time after it rings.)

Uh, does anyone else see something wrong with this? Part of core curriculum but no instruction
    on the task?

  4. Thanks Chris! This sounds good. I just needed an outline to follow. I bet after the first couple of
people or so, things will smooth out and I'll get creative! I've spent so much time on table massage
techniques I was totally blown away when they informed us we'd spend the entire time no oils, no
draping, no full body stuff.. just adlib! lol It's good for me though. Thanks again!

  6. Uh, the Dommunity Service work is part of the core curriculum (not chair massage specifically,
that's merely one small modality taught as an addendum to the core). Sorry for the misunderstanding.
We've been given a basic foundation in the Chair Massage techniques but that was early on and very
briefly. It so happens that the event is doing only chair massages so I was just lookin' for some
quick rundowns if anyone had the Chair down to more of a science than I have thus far. Nothing WRONG
with it per se.. merely a combination of my not elucidating on specifics and your misunderstanding.
    :-)

    Have a super week!

the school i am attending is hosting a benefit next sunday (10/26) and we, the students, have been
asked to participate. since we just finished our first tri-mester the only thing we've been taught
is the "theraputic sequence." we'll be able to do some of that on sunday, but mostly we'll be giving
chair massages. we'll be getting a crash course in chair massage monday afternoon.

this not anything bad the school is doing. basically, they're giving us the basics and letting us go
from there. all of the instructors will be there, supervising, so i'ts not like we're being thrown
to the wolves. matter of fact, myself and another student have volunteered to assist in giving
"sports" massage at a local university tomorrow evening. i've never given a "sports" massage, so i
will learn as i am doing.

i am quite excited by both events, as they are just providing me with more experience, and exposure
    to different bodies.
