Chain Lube/Cleaner

I like using WD40 as a cleaner. I like it so much I might start using it as a lube, too. I can't find a lube that keeps my chain as clean as WD40 does.
Some people use gasoline or mineral tupentine as cleaners, but I like using the pressure pack (WD) to help blast off a bit of the [censored].

I've started using it almost every day.

After I spent 45 mins thoroughly cleaning my chain, etc, a couple of weeks ago, I've started giving my chain a very quick spray and wipe with the WD40 after each ride.

I dunno how this'll go, but I'll keep you updated:p

Having said all that, many mechanics recommend Pro Link or White Lightning lubes

Diesel... and nothing else, cleans and lubes, 2 in 1 😄

Simple Green makes a pretty good cleaner and it can be had for cheap at any Wally World-Mart. If you went to your LBS and purchased a "cycling" branded degreaser you'd be paying rediculous prices for basically the same thing. I've also used Gunk engine degreaser for the tough jobs.

For lubes I've used 3in1 with good success. It's basically a very light weight sewing machine oil. I'll spray a little Simple Green on a rag and wipe down the chain a couple of times a week and once a week put a drop of 3in1 on each bushing. Let that soak in overnight (so it doesn't splatter all over the rear wheel) and wipe down the chain before riding. I was using Shimano's Spitt Lube but found it collected a lot of dirt and grime compared to 3in1. The chain on my MTB has stayed clean enough that I don't feel compelled to do a more thorough Sheldon Brown styled regimen.

This year I'm giving Boeshield T-9 a try on my road bikes but it's too early to comment on it yet. I've only used it on the bike in my trainer so far, which is not a thorough enough test, but I'm optimistic about it being a good "clean" low maintenance lube.

Guy at the bike shop does the same but WEAR GLOVES OR BARRIER CREAM as diesel can be a carcinogen same as benzine .

I like Finish Line Dry Lube; keeps the chain a lot cleaner than oil. Normally I just reapply this stuff without cleaning, one small drop per pin. My first 4 oz bottle has lasted over 5000 miles now (on same chain) so it's not exactly costly to use.

If the chain is usually dirty, I'll use a chain-cleaner "machine" with citrus cleaner. Got the Spin Doctor cleaner and three bottles of citrus lube for around $20 from Performance. It should be just about a lifetime supply for me.
