Speaking of idling, do you ever freewheel?

(chain wouldn't be constant speed anyway if you had more than one front
ring).

In practice, the electric characteristics of a dynamo mean the lighting
doesn't vary too much with speed anyway (once you're going...)

Except it would cut out every time you stopped pedalling going round a
corner, or to lift out of the saddle for a bump. And it's actually a
good idea to have more light the faster you go.

But on a fixie it is not going to be any different from a hub or tyre
driven dynamo
