Yes, I've been using that combo for about 15 months on my daily
commuter. Length adjusts easily with a chain tool, just like any other
chain.

The PC48 chain works well with all 5, 6, 7 or 8-speed freewheels and
cassettes, and works well with all 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10-speed
chainrings.

Checking the length and correcting it is a basic part of chain
replacement regardless of the brand of chain or the setup of the bike.
Get a chain tool to shorten the chain. Use the connector link that
SRAM supplies with the PC48 to hook it together. If the old chain was
working correctly (except possibly for problems due to wear issues),
and you are not changing any of the sprockets to a different size,
just make the new chain the same length as the old one.

Well... I've got a SRAM PC-48 chain on my single-speed Raliegh. It
seems to work fine on its Shimano BMX freewheel and Vuelta chainring.
Should I call in an exorcist?

Nope. that *often* works, but there are instances where a
single-speed setup will have the old thick sprockets which the chain
won't work with.
