I am currently training for my first marathon. The longer my training
runs get, the more chafing problems I seem to have. What solutions
work well enough for the duration of a marathon?

Vaseline works good for most areas. Donny has a preference for certain
lubes, but for "non-running" purposes/pursuits. -

this, then body glide will do the trick. Personally, I prefer olive oil. It
sounds weird, but it works.--

Throw in some lettuce, cukes (watch where the point goes on that), and
basil in your shorts, and by the time you're done running you'll have a
tossed salad. -

Stop whining..........chafing is the only interesting thing about
jogging. -

will tell you, is something completely different.--Harold Buck

If you don't wear a shirt or singlet then it is not an issue but otherwise I
would highly recommend it. When I finished the Traverse City Marathon last
month I saw a guy with a white T-shirt that had two big spots of blood on
the front over his nipples - Ouch! -
I like the "no shirt" idea except that if it is cold during the
race one wouldn't have that option. Next best seems to be
Band-Aids.I have only run Half-marathons thus far and
haven't experienced chafing elsewhere. But I can imagine
chafing in other parts of the body being an issue for marathons
and longer distances - when one might want to try out some
lube.In the Big Sur Half Marathon last year, I found a volunteer
with huge quantities of petroleum jelly and people dipping
into it as they ran past. I had no idea what it was for, but
now I do. -

Phil M.I tried this and it worked. But, how are you applying it? I haven't
determined a non-messy method.Piedmont Donald

how to apply olive oil between your legs. -

only in the running newsgroup could men ask men
such a personal question.let me throw this in. i don't chafe. honest. i'm a bit
on the slim side (6 feet 159 pounds on a heavy day).
is it fair to say that the chafers have high body fat?
as runners, i'd be surprised if they had
huge leg muscles but there will be exceptions.
so wouldn't the first order of the day be, as always,
to just lose some weight?

anything between the legs. The other spot is the back of the arm pits.--

is it fair to say that the chafers have high body fat?Absolutely. When I was running at a weight of 185+ lbs I always needed
something to keep from chafing for runs of 10 miles or more. Now, since I
weigh 165 lbs I don't use anything unless I'm running 20 miles or more.Quoted message said:

when runs are in the 20+ mile range.--
