Cervelo P4

It's hard to think of a reason to switch if you've been satisfied with your SPD-SL's so far.

I wear SPD-SL shoes at the minute but have royally..... ruined them. I am a size 49 so big fat feet which is awkward to get the nicer range.

Almost any road shoe will be compatible with almost any road pedal, so the two choices are practically independent. Your shoes are ruined, so you're looking for new shoes, or new pedals?

My advice would be to order the same kind of pedals that you're using on your other bike(s) so that you can wear the same shoes for every ride without having to change cleats. If the P4 will be your only bike then just remove the pedals from whatever you're riding now and put them on the P4 when it comes.

If you need to ask, right now I'm currently hooked on Speedplay Zeroes, the ones with the stainless steel spindle. My TIme RXSs broke again (bad bearing first time, broken body due to sloppy clip-in this time), and I'm glad to have a pedal that is serviceable and appears to have no parts that can break off. In addition, I like the low stack height, stiff spindles, and smooth bearings.

But you can't go wrong with Shimano, Look, or Speedplay.

Regarding shoes, Specialized Pro Road shoes are available up to size 49 in medium and wide widths. They fit about a half size larger than most Shimano models.
