What do you think of Cervélo? Am i right to be excited about it? And is it worth the effort of finding one, when i could get a trek, or giant and not have the hassle!?

You are making a killer choice with the Cervelo R3. I ordered one last month and it should arrive in a few weeks (I hope). I have test rode an R3 on two occasions and it rocks. It is fast, stiff, and yet, comfortable with its vertical compliance. The thing is almost 4 lbs lighter than my 1992 Trek 5200. Going uphill, I rode one or two higher gears than my Trek. I loved it ... so I ordered it. Too bad the demo was a bit too big for me, as the next size down was on backorder. As much as I like my Trek, I am happy to switch to Cervelo. Treks are too common now and IMO relatively overpriced. To get a Trek that weighs the same as the R3, you would have to pay significantly more ... although you may get burned in Europe with the distributors/exchange etc. I suspect Cervelos will soon climb in price.

I use a Cervelo Dual for TT's, which is a great bike, and plan to get the P2C or P3C once I've hit the targets I've set(maybe next year 🙄 ).

Thanks AndROOb. I found out theres no supplier in Ireland, so i'll have to look to the UK market. I go across from time to time for football games, so i'll try have a look around the outlets.

If you dont mind me asking, do you think the Cervelo Dual is signifcantly slower on a flat course than a P2 or P3 or is more a present to oneself.

I have a Carbon Soloist, and it is a really well made bike. There are a lot of common bikes out there - Maybe Cervelo will become one of them, but their product is great value for money, and not everyone has one [thogh in Australia that's starting to change - they're getting popular!]

BTW - Look at Cervelo TV on the website [www.cervelo.com] and they have little movies of the designers talking about their choices in frame design. The math on aero vs. weight is pretty interesting - the comtribution of a certain abount of weight [so many 100 gms] is about a watt / hr - and the aerodynamics of a bike is a huge differentiator.

Not sure how this translates to a road bike - but for a TT bike it is all position and aerodynamics - wieght is much LESS of a factor in overall speed gains.

Anyway - buy it! You won't be disappointed! Fast, stiff, light and good looking! 🙂

For the times I'm posting at the moment(25miles ~1.00.05), the dual is just fine, the aerodynamics of the frame are already quite good, but once I reach the 55 minute target I have set, I would then be looking for every tiny bit more aerodynamic efficiency, coupled with more comfort and less weight, that I would get from the P2/3C, in order to get the 54, 53, 52 etc minute targets I would then have to set.
Oh yeah, it would also be a truly awesome present to myself 😄 😄 😄 .

Thank you!! I went sub 55 ...ohhhhhh 17 years ago or so!! Now I'm tryng to get back in and get in shape and my goal too is TT!! I didnt have the aid of aero helmet, bike, aero wheels or discs, just my road bike and clipons. I will want and need every trick in the book to go that fast now!! Heck-I may never go that quick again, but I am sure gonna try.

Reason I am looking at the Cervelo Dual is I need a TT bike for next season and dont expect to have the budget or justify a $5000 TT bike. if I too show some promise, then it will be worth spending the money in 2008.

I got my 'Dual on ebay as a complete bike for £650. I had to change the TT bars and it came with training wheels, but essentially I got a bargain. The other thing I should add is that I had been riding carbon LOOK framed bikes(comfort) up to this point, and was apprehensive about what the alloy Cervelo would be like. I was very pleasantly surprised at how smooth the dual was to ride. It is rigid at the BB for good power transfer, but also reasonably comfortable for TT's.
There is a certain 'Je ne sais qoui' about Cervelo frames that I like, but I do think I need to get another one so as to try and find what it is 🙄 .

Thanks for your insight-I keep looking on e-bay as well. Maybe a dual or a P2SL to get my feet wet again. OH and I was wrong about the TT inof of mine. Its was actully about 18 years ago I did my last TT....ouch!! Good luck!!!
