Chamfer the sharp edges with a file or glasspaper, then attach direct to the bike. It worked for me.
I guess a paper gasket might prevent some scratching, but we didn't get any scratching anyway.

Hi Guy, Thanks but........ There are no sharp edges, the problem is just metal screwed tight against
painted metal. Paper gaskets fall apart in the rain. Rubber, which protects the frame lossens in the

Paper gaskets do not fall apart in the rain IME. Use good quality brown paper.

I'll try the Brown paper gasket. I know DIY stores sell such things for piping etc, but where might
I get a decent bit to sort out the Swiss?

You can use parcel wrapping paper, or get gasket paper from a motor parts store.

Just had another thought, though: why not paint the tubes with clear nail varnish first then clamp
on direct, if necessary painting round the edges again with clear nail varnish to stop water sliding
in there through yer actual capilliary action.

I see a Nomad in reddish brown with gouts of congealed gore at the bottom bracket and along the
chain stays. Perhaps that's what they mean by "Hammer Finish"?

The problem is it screws directly to your bike without any protection, metal on metal. So,
trusting the Swiss I screw it onto my THORN NOMAD only for it CHIP MY BLOODY PAINTWORK. Which I
have since had touched up.

I originally made a gasket from inner tube and electrical tape, then got fed up when it came loose
and just clamped it down tight onto the painted metal.

Don't worry about the scratches, you won't be taking it off, it's the single most useful addition to
my tandem (holds up the tandem with two kids on, allows for simplest gear adjustment etc...). Don't
be tempted to trim the legs. The longer they are the easier it is to work on the bike.

By the way the design is really supposed to bolt directly to a plate brazed to the frame. I'd have
thought this would be an option on something as smart as a NOMAD.
