Centaur or Veloce Ergopower Levers ?

The gear levers behind the brake levers: Centaur's are thinner and have
holes in them, making them a weeny bit lighter and nicer to use. That's
it! All the shifting parts are exactly the same.

Still has a silver option as well for those who prefer that.

I think the little holes are worth the extra anyway.

If you can get it. When I was building up my Dolan I phoned pretty much
every roadie shop in Britain looking for a Centaur groupset in grey.
No-one had one, and no-one thought they could get me one. Yes, they're
made, but they're very hard to find.

I'm a bit uncertain about the new Centaur finish - looks very nice, but
how durable is it [1]? The chief "weak spot" would probably be the
crank arms, where Velcro straps on shoes have a tendency to rub the
cranks and gradually remove any anodised finish over time. My road and
'cross bikes have plain silver alloy cranks, with nice polished bits
where straps have rubbed over a few years!

Also, if you want 9sp rather than 10, the silver finish is your *only*

Nearly all Campag metal parts are anodised now, including the silver ones
with near-clear anodising. Shoes or straps wears it off the cranks to
leave shiny polished patches in contrast to the milky finish of the rest.
The anodising seems to survive on brake levers, though.

Non anodised polished alloy looks better at first but you have to work
harder to keep corrosion and dirt off.

To anyone in doubt over what finish you have on something: Try polishing
with metal polish. Black mark on cloth = not anodised. No black mark =
won't benefit from polishing.

I bought a precursor to Ultegra and that certainly wore down, the brake
levers included. I expect the Centaur to wear too.

However the patina just adds to Owner Satisfaction (TM), IMHO

Fat Birds had at least one because they built up my Merlin using it.
That was a show special.

Perhaps Campag were testing the water and they might be more available
this year. On Titanium it looks better than carbon Record (IMHO), let
alone alloy laquer.

I'll probably replace the cranks this year with a compact, now that the
grey is available (about 1/3 of the cost of teh carbon cranks), so I'll
find out the hard way I suppose,

How much for the used silver gruppo? Cost to change?
