I didn't realize Sierra Nevada's uniforms were green. Seems
like several US pro teams are into green this year.

Just Healthnet, Webcor and Sierra Nevada. That is the three
controlling teams. And yes, that was REALLY dumb. At least
you can tell Sierra Nevada because it is a pale green like
the labels on their beer. BTW Great beer.

Looks like that road has been repaved since the last time I
rode the race ('85 or so)

According to their site they raised enough money to have it
repaved on Mar. 8. I could just hear those tires gripping
that fresh, sticky asphalt all the way up.

This is one of my favorite races, but I couldn't make it
this year. Thanks for "taking me there" Richard.

Sidenote: Dave Z. was up at the Santa Rosa Tuesday Night
crit last week, and so was Levi. Odessa showed up too
with her long hair Chihauhua. I wanted to pet her puppy
but was too shy.

Wow, cool. Bummer I would have to miss out on a race like
that, considering the 100+ miles to drive there after work
through rush hour. I'd probably be toast by the time I got
back home, too.

BTW, that picture of Eric and Mike was taken with my PoS 4
year old digital camera which regularly takes lousy action
shots. I can't get over how well that one turned out. I was
tracking them which I hit the shutter button and things just
clicked. What you don't see are the 70 lousy pics I didn't
put up. ;-)

Eric Wohlberg (Sierra) and Mike Sayers (Healthnet) were in
a two man break for almost the whole race (Wohlberg has
won this race twice). They were only caught with about two
to go, then Jacques-Maynes attacked with one and a half to
go. He had a six second gap with one to go and stayed away
with time for the victory salute. McCook took the sprint
for second.

In the women's 1/2/3 race, Karen Brems (formerly Kurreck,
Alto Velo) and Kathryn Curi (Rona) were in a break for most
of the race, had a gap, then somehow managed to get barely
caught on the last lap, but must still have been at the
front of the field rounding the final corner - Brems
managed to win the sprint anyway, it was close. Brad Anders
must be happy.

LGBRC says that one reason the pavement was so bad on the
hill until repaved is that nobody ever drives up/down it
because it's so steep. Apparently asphalt requires some
level of auto traffic to bed in.

IIRC Mike was over the top of the hill first a couple times
when Eric came unclipped, probably while shifting just as it
flattened out. When Eric was leading Mike up the hill,
though, he looked every time like he was capable of lapping
