A fairly reliable source told me that some pro teams are testing the cateye powermeter. If this is true, it means that they are very close to a finished product. To my understanding they are using the Torductor-S technology from ABB, currently used in F1, so there should be no problem with an SRM patent. The biggest pro teams using Cateye that I can think of is QuickStep and Davitamon/Lotto, so please go out, (bring your camera) and get me a picture of this system!

I'd be happy if it could record the right leg but I don't think there's anyway to get a BB powermeter to do that. Except maybe on a tandem.

and completely waterproof and good for temps of -10C and windchills of -25C 🙂 I'd rather have very good interval marking and pacing functions rather than super high storage .. 1 sec is plenty of resolution for non-track work IMO.

Why not both? 🙂 What is the current size of the SRM Powercontrol memory? 128kB!! Imagine using a 2GB SD card! 😄 With a bluetooth connection I mentioned earlier you should be able to download your mp3s to the powercontrol, and use wireless bluetooth headphones... 😄

You might want to start here cyclingforums.comt293770 .htmlOpen ↗. My view is that today's PMs are wonderful at measuring power and very simplistic at exploiting power data for the benefit of the cyclist. This is a big deal because power is all we can truly manage on a ride, training ride or race.
Good point about an SD card. 1GB cards are dirt cheap now.
I emailed polar and SRM a couple years ago suggesting they do that but nobody ever listened :-(. It would also eliminate all the serial/usb/ir etc. interface issues to the pc.

But, storage is not really the gating factor. Computational capacity is more important for what I have in mind, and therefore memory and processor speed. Also, the SD cards require larger batteries than most PMs have currently. Not that it is a big deal to have a larger computer case to accommodate a larger, more powerful battery. The SRM computer is huge compared with the PT.

RDO check out the new ergomo pro. It does a lot of what yu are looking for. Including displaying your current output in W/Kg. Current/ Cumalitive TSS and IF etc. The new gen powermeters are beginning to show up.

Thanks for the suggestion, jerryz. Actually, I'm aware of what new data the new ergomo pro offers. But, having started down the road of exploiting the value of power data, I have moved well past the ergomo's features. Think of it this way. Current and average power, NP, IF and TSS are all based on what you have done (i.e., past-tense). I am interested in managing power at any given point in a ride and in the future. Imagine you are a pilot flying in instrument conditions. Do you want to know where you have been or do you want to know where you are going and how to get there? The former is interesting, but the latter is much more interesting and that is my focus. On a scale of 1-10, the present PMs are at 1, the new ergomo pro is a 2 or 3, and I want to go to 10.
Who me? Not that i can, but wouldn't that be a bit like knowing what presents you were going to get for Christmas. The excitement is in the waiting!

I´m not the waiting kind of guy... and I´m not waiting until next christmas... I also read a few years back that campag was in on it, can you confirm this? If it´s true I have a Scott CR1PRO 06 to sell at a very good price... 😠

so let me get this straight, we are saying that regardless the cost aspect, the Ergomo is a better buy than the SRM Pro?!
i only recently bought an SRM Pro, but this is important to my training buddy who is about to buy one...or perhaps an Ergomo if the consensus is that it's now superior?
