Been away for a week and come back to the news that Dave Restall, a well known Townsville cyclist and triathlete was involved in a collision with a motor scooter while descending Castle Hill at 0510 hrs last Thursday (?). Word is that scooter rider was not wearing a helmet and breath and blood tests showed he exceeded .05 alcohol. Apparently scooter rider has been charged and investigations into the collision are continuing.

For those that are wondering, yes it IS normal to be up at that time and out exercising up here in the tropics. If you are very lucky the temp at 0500 might be a cool 25 c.
Townsville has 2 "Kiwi Daves",the other one was smashed up pretty bad just 5 weeks ago and is mending well. Back at LBS working this week. An overlapped wheel at the front of the pack, brakes jammed on up front, no escape route, a fall, pack used Dave as a speed hump. Broke shoulder blade, colarbone, top of humerus, 2 tyre track bruises up the back and a huge bruise in the shape of a chainring on the butt.
Will now go and look for 2 positive cycling stories to lift the gloom.
Get well soon Dave n' Dave
