For those that are wondering, yes it IS normal to be up at that time
and out exercising up here in the tropics. If you are very lucky the
temp at 0500 might be a cool 25 c.

Townsville has 2 "Kiwi Daves",the other one was smashed up pretty bad
just 5 weeks ago and is mending well. Back at LBS working this week.
An overlapped wheel at the front of the pack, brakes jammed on up
front, no escape route, a fall, pack used Dave as a speed hump. Broke
shoulder blade, colarbone, top of humerus, 2 tyre track bruises up the
back and a huge bruise in the shape of a chainring on the butt.
Will now go and look for 2 positive cycling stories to lift the gloom.

I heard there was another cyclist involved in a collision with a car out
towards Harveys Range Saturday before last. Not sure how true it is but
I believe it was reported in the Bully on the Monday apparantly he was
pretty beat up as well. I couldn't find it on the net but I did read
about it however that was the last I heard.
Sorry to be the bearer of more bad news.

Keep us posted about if the cops follow up or press charges. Any chance that the local tri club could organise a ride/benefit for Dave & his family?

Will definately keep an eye on this one.
Castle Hill is an "exercise hot spot" with up to 2,000 walkers and 200 bikes a day ( counted last year). And every redneck in town wants to roar up there to show his girl what a good driver he is. Call in paper again today to close road to powered vehicles for part of the day.

Very sure that a benefit will be organised when he comes back home. Just hope that all goes well with his motor mechanic business. He employs 4 mechanics.

His bike is totalled. Its a "Blue", which I hadnt heard of but apparently from China?

For Blanchy: Yes I heard about the Herveys Range Rd. collision. 2 Sunday mornings ago at 0930. Apparently a car turning left into the dump just turned straight into him.
(probably said: sorry mate I didnt see you) Heard it on radio. Nothing heard since. I had just got back from a ride to Ross River Dam and then home via the "stray cat" route. There were a very lot of people out riding that morning.

Amen.. but it doesn't seem to be just Towsville, just read this group for
proof of that. Now I know why I enjoy MTB riding over in Douglas, no

My guess is that they didn't see each other. If you had to guess who didn't
have their lights on which would you pick?
Hint:- the Aprillia, like most scooters, can't turn his lights off.

sure about that? My scooter's got a light switch, every one I test
rode did.

A while ago it was mandated that motorbikes had their headlight on at all times and to enforce this, the switches were removed. This was been changed more recently (I don't know when). My '96 Ducati has no light switch, which contributes to making starting it a lottery on cold mornings.
