  1. Does anyone know of this MTB? Looks a good buy on paper but what do I know?

    Thanks

Do you have any links to it online? I no longer live in the UK, so I haven't seen it.

I did however, used to sell Carreras, so some background info. Carrera are Halfords' own 'upper-end'
brand - they tend to be of average quality for the price, usually coming in with some good
components at the expense of a slightly poorer frame. There was the odd good deal, but in almost all
cases, it's possible to buy something better elsewhere. Also, if you do decide to go for the
Carrera, check out the staff first
    - the level of knowledge varies wildly from store to store.

I suspect Merida makes the frame. biketrade.org.twe showonenews.asp and
    merida.commerida.com

Merida frames are also sold under the "Centurion" name.

Ah, I know the ones now - there were some of the Halfords Bikehut guys riding those in the
post-World Cup XC race at Fort Bill.

Actually the Epic looks like the LRS. The LRS layout was developed by Merida and Bergwerk and was
    there first.

Sorry, it is in German. mtb-news.demodules.php
    &mode=&order=

LRS is as hyped in the German speaking mtb community as VPP is among English speakers.

Have you run across any LRS bikes (Merida/Centurion or Bergwerk) in your riding? They look good on
paper, but I would be curious to talk to people who have ridden them

There is a thread on this going on over at de.alt.sport.mountain-bike. Google can translate it for
you if it is needed. They are talking about the Centurion LRS-1 and LRS-2, but I think Carrerra is a
Halfords house brand for the same bike. It is "Neues MTB ist fällig -- Wer hat Erfahrungen mit
    Centurion Backfire LRS-1"
