Yeah i was looking at prices online for cages and there over $100. There has to be a cheaper option

I have 6 of them and they hold my Polar bottles very well. But they won't hold them upside down on triathlon cage holders.

I've got a pair of Forte (aka, Performance) cages on my bike. They work fine so far. They hold the bottles and the look nice - what more can you expect of them? Skip the Campy Record bottle cages, unless you've got money to burn. They all do the same thing.

They are all basically the same. Right now, Nashbar has some on sale for around $13.00 a piece. That's a heck of a lot cheaper than Campy, and they do hold a bottle. I'd rather save the $ so I can blow it on some other bike stuff.

I agree, a carbon cage saves you what 10 grams. I can spit 10 grams.

aluminum cages can be had for as low as $2 each mail order. For the same price as a carbon cage buy 20. give some to your friends, keep some as spares. Mount one on your dashboard, mount one next to the roll of toilet paper. Support the chinese economy.

I tried the Performance Forte carbon cages and didn't like them. They don't have a strong grip like those Supergo cages. Those Supergo cages are really great, and I use them on all 4 of my road bikes. The Supergo cages weigh about 30 grams, and $27 is cheap. I got mine when they were on sale for $20.

You can also get carbon cages on ebay. Just do a search.

Carbon cages make your bike look better. I realy hate steel or aL cages - they're so cheap. These type of cages only go on my cheap mtn bikes. My road bikes are all expensive.

I'm using Zipp carbon cages ($50 each) having retired my Campy carbon cages. For $115 each, they burped up the bottle on every bump. After losing a dozen bottles, they are now "art" in my garage. 🙄 I know nothing about the Douglas cages, but they seem to make high-value stuff.

I got one pair of this beautiful 15 g. carbon bottle cages for $54.

First time out, I loose one bottle, then I start riding checking my bottles after each bump, but after I loose my only bottle at first Criterium I raced with them (with obvious consequences) I reinstalled my old ugly-but-trusty aluminum cages. Now I have $54 of useless carbon at the floor.

The budget cages are pretty heavy for carbon and don't hold that well in general. In my experience any cage that doesn't have a piece that curves up in front of the bottle is going to launch without much urging (like those IRD knockoffs from the other post).

Cateye nylon cages are around 30g and less than $4. Hold great and they are black so the look is not that much different from carbon. You can also trim them down and drill a few holes and get them to 26g or so and if it doesn't work out it hasn't cost you much to experiment either. I kind of like the contrast they provide on an $8000 bike too.

I have a PROFILE DESIGN CARBON CAGE on my Felt and I love it. I think a paid $39. for it. I even got a second one for my wife to put on her bike.

when i bought a CF frame, i thought: it deserves a CF cage!

it was a bad choice. 🙄

1stly- it was hard to use. the angle required to stuff a bottle was SO picky that it took real EFFORT to insert bottle. the angle had to be EXACTLY right to insert the bottle. 🙁

2ndly- the bottom "lip" broke on the 3rd ride! 😠

so i thought: well, lets see

my "old skool" alloy cages would swallow a a bottle at almost any angle
and
after bolting them on, had NEVER given them a second thought

SO, returned the CF cage to vendor in trade for $34 worth of tubes
and
a new "old skool" stainless 40-gram cage for $6

never again will i be so suckered by that kind of marketing 🙄

Like I said, I loved mine. Can you tell us what kind of cage you had so we can beware and not grab one someday.

Interesting... like I said, I've got a pair of Performance Forte carbon cages. Been using them for about 2,000 miles now. At 26 grams, they don't come much lighter. And at $25 a piece, I'd call them budget. I haven't lost a bottle yet. Then again, like I also said, they all do pretty much the same thing, so a $4 cage will do as well. I got a carbon frame. I had to have carbon cages. What can I say? I'm vain!

Just sent you a PM , those Cateye cages could be VERY good !!!

I remember back 5+ years ago, Specialized had the "rib cage" which I believe was nylon , slim , simple , attractive in my eyes , light , fully functional. What ever happened to that cage ???

feltf10- the CF cage i tried was a performance,

BUT...

the problem wasnt as much the manuf as it was the design:

double sided as shown in the post above required an EXACT entry angle
and more troubling was the bottom CF lip:
it was single bottom lip (as opposed to the double lip shown above)
and was approx 10mm wide X 5mm deep, and VERY fragile,
and it failed (broke at curved joint) on my 3rd ride

no knocks to performance, ive bought from them (perf, nash,supergo)
for many years with nothing but good experiences.
they exchanged the cage (for other items) without ANY questions.

as i said before, with my "old" alloy cages before, i simply bolted them on and NEVER gave them another thought for the past almost 20 years.

MY experience with the CF cage was radically different, it was a pain from the very beginning, and failed on the 3rd ride. for ME, the value to cost ratio was entirely unacceptable.

i liked the "cool factor" of the CF cage, but it didnt work for ME. 🙄

the cage i went with was a SPEC:

nylon, but finsihed to look like CF, easy entry angle, relatively light.
approx cost was $10 (in US-$)

without squinting it looks like a CF cage.

if your main concern is "for ur bottle to stay put" then don't waste money on carbon cages.
