Just wondering if anyone tracks carbs as a percentage rather than by
grams/day? I started using fitday and I like the idea of percents. If anyone
does, what percent/day for weight loss?
Cheers.

Cheers.Hi Bear,
I like using the percents also. I try and keep mine to: fat: 60%, protein
28% and carbs: 12%. My diet usually works out to a bit less fat and a bit
more protein, but that's what I strive for.

|| If anyone does, what percent/day for weight loss?It will depend. Your carb level needs to be enough to give you appetite
suppression. BG control might also be an issue, too. I'd say 5 to 10
percent would not be too far off for a lot of folks. -

isocaloric to a 50/30/20 split for "moderate carb". -

Bear, if you permit me to say one thought. You are asking a great
question, and my personal answer is that tracking percentages is
useful. Just in case you want to create a diet of your own that tracks
some variable that is not tracked by standard diets: You had a lot of
troubles, previously, trying to invent your own diet and stray from
diets that are known to work. My suggestion is that if you want to
really lose weight, to stick to some known good diet 100%, with no
deviations whatsoever. At least until you get very close to, or right
to, normal weight.--

Warning. I thought your 5-10 percent looked low so I did some fiddling
around with my numbers in FitDay. I am for 40-45 grams of carb per day and
noted that my percentages in FitDay were often above 10%. However, when I
did some calculating I realized that the percentage figure they give for
carbs on the Weight Goal screen includes the fiber grams. So if you use
FitDay for tracking percentages, keep this in mind. You will have to do
your own calculation for net carbs. In news:[email hidden],

Actually, the % should be right because the carbs calories don't include any
fiber calories. So to get the % of carbs, do 4 * (total carbs -
fiber)/total calories * 100.for guys like me and bear, the % maybe lower than for you and those lighter
than us, since, as DJ pointed out, the body doesn't work on % but on grams.
So the higher the calorie level one eats at, the lower the % will be for a
given level of carbs.Oh, I'm looking at a different screen than the Weight Goal Screen. I'm
looking at the Calories Eaten Today table. That might explain the
difference.FOB wrote:

I guess you mean what percent of your total day's food is carbs/protein/fat.
What I'd find useful would be a reference saying what the percents are
within each food. For example my Kettle brand almond butter says:
serving size 28
fat 16
carb 6
pro 5Roughly I translate that into round numbers as:
fat 50%
carb 20
pro 20Looks like carb is the clear loser, so.... 🙂

FitDay has some strange inconsistencies. On the Weight Goal screen the
Carbs figure is net carbs, on the Calories Eaten the carbs figure includes
fiber. But on the Weight Goal screen the % of calories column shows the
percentage for total carbs, that's the same figure used in Calories eaten.
Bad programming as the line on WG says Carbs (not Fiber) but the percentage
is for total carbs."Roger Zoul" <[email hidden]> wrote in message

As you may know, carb level with also depend on activity level too, so more
activity the high in carbs you can go, in general. But those who have BG
issues are in a world of their own, imo. Your body has to tell you what to
do (IME).||
