  1. All of my cycling buddies are buying dem new Cannondale Capos for some
reason.. "Why is Mike selling his Surley?" "Oh, he decided to buy a
Capo." "Why did Johnny get rid of his Bianchi fixie?" "He sold it
and bought a Capo." All the guys at the local Bike Doctor rave over
them.. And yah know what, I've got my eyes on a shiny silver one,
myself.. I'm amazed at how light they are, even with the stock
components and brakes (not just on the front, but the back, too!" Some
may say that's blasphemy, however.. (grin)

48/17-> BIG gear plus can ya put fenders on this thing? If not, bad
form, if yes, they ought to be standard.

  3. Are you talking about the Cannondale system six? I'm thinking about
buying one. Did you see the recent recal on Cannondale bikes. It
includes their higher ends bike from late 06 to 07 of this month.

48/17 on a bike that has no brakes and screams velodrome is one thing,
but on a street ride with two brakes? That's just 'toopid. Agree on the
fender issue. For $300 less you can get a Redline 925. Four pounds
heavier, but ya get fenders and spec that basically makes the bike
durable enough to be called an appliance. If I wanted to go light and
fast, I'd go for a Pista with a front brake instead of the Capo. Only
thing that stands out are the sweet high flange hubs. Those are
    certainly pretty.

Fenders capacity would be a negative for this bike. Appliance is not
the operative word here, rather accessory (as in fashion). It's for
folks who want to look like a bad-ass nutcase fixed riding messenger
without worrying about killing themselves. IMO it has as much
street-cred as a pair of fake workboots.

48/17 is not a big gear (barely bigger than 42/15). I'm by no means a
power house, and I barely noticed when I switched to that from 48/18.

  7. Bikes aren't always about practicality. The capo is just plain cool.
I saw one last week and it immediately caught my eye and made me check
it out. The price is a bit steep though. I will probably get a
motobecane to satisfy my single speed urge.

No. The System 6 is a road bike. The Capo is Cannondale's '07 version
of a fixie. I was only thinking of getting it because my racing
buddies (i'm not a racer myself, however, but training to be) tell me
that it can help my riding and is a great training tool. I can barely
keep up with them when they decide to do a 40 mile ride on their
fixies. They blast up hills like they were 11 year olds on a bmx bike.

You're right, it is pricey, but it does come with a CAAD 5 aluminum
frame which makes it light weight while not sacrificing too much
durability. At any rate, I think it would make a great get around town
bicycle, or a work horse bike to commute to work with. And, well, the
    bike is simply beautiful.

A little secret: If the gearings right, a fixie can be as fast or faster
    than a geared bike.

  11. Yeah fixies are great! You definitly can improve your spin and
efficiency, plus you really get a hell of a workout when you hit the
hills. I don't recomend hitting any major hills until you have a good
base and leg strength can really do some damage to the knees if that
connective tissue isn't built up yet. Especially after a winter indoor
    training period.
