Man if 2K is your budget I look farther than C-Dale. They have trouble
honoring warrenties, and if you want to change parts it normally has to be
made by C-Dale.

I'd look at all the major brands all-mountain bikes, Specialized, Rocky
Mountain, Trek, Giant, GT, and undersand the market better. C-Dale has a
name as being the Porshe of mountain bikes, they just have never impressed
me....

The Prophet 600 is a decent deal. Keep your receipt, and warranty card
handy. Cannondale does honor their warranty. I ride a prophet on a regular
basis. I like the bikes manners. 140mm travel front, and rear is nice.
The Lefty fork has a preload adjustment that is good for heavier guys. You
are getting a hand built bike made in the USA. There are not many big bike
companies that make their bikes here in CONUS. The frames are strong. They
are just not "overbuilt" like some other brands. Basicly 27 pounds for
dual duty.

I'll tell ya that I have had two Cannondales in the past 10 years - both
ridden pretty hard off-road, racing, etc. I liked them but both frames broke
in exactly the same location - at the top of the weld between the top and
seat tubes. They didn't honor my warranty because I lost my original
receipt - which I guess is understandable. But, I now have a Marin frame.

I am your weight and ride more fr than anything else on my fs. The Prohet
is just fine unless you are going to shuttle a lot. If you need a bike that
you can pedal around normal trails and really FR with too I would go for a
Vantena or Santa Cruz Heckler. There are haters of SC and FR types here so
don't let them discourage you.

If you are really just gonna ride trails then the Phrophet is OK just don't
think you can do 10' all season with it and it won't break.
